''Outlook'' was a Canadian current affairs television series which aired on CBC Television in 1960. Premise This series featured political topics such as the campaign towards the 1960 United States presidential election, speculation on the Canadian economy and the effects of the press on the political system. Episodes also concerned international situations in Africa, Latin America and the West Indies. CBC Television (also known as CBC TV) is a Canadian English-language broadcast television network owned by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, the national public broadcaster. 1960 United States Presidential Election
The 1960 United States presidential election was the 44th quadrennial presidential election. It was held on Tuesday, November 8, 1960. In a closely contested election, Democratic United States Senator John F. Kennedy defeated the incumbent Vice President Richard Nixon, the Republican Party nominee. This was the first election in which fifty states participated, and the last in which the District of Columbia did not, marking the first participation of Alaska and Hawaii. This made it the only presidential election where the threshold for victory was 269 electoral votes. It was also the first election in which an incumbent president was ineligible to run for a third term because of the term limits established by the 22nd Amendment. ''Saturday Night'' was a Canadian general interest magazine. It was founded in Toronto, Ontario in 1887 and was Canada's oldest general interest magazine. The magazine ceased publication in 2005. History ''Saturday Night'' was first established in 1887 as a weekly broadsheet newspaper about public affairs and the arts, and was later expanded into a general interest magazine. The editor, Edmund E. Sheppard, was prevented from editing a daily newspaper due to an earlier libel action in regards to an incident involving Louis Riel. Additionally, Blue laws in Toronto prevented publication on Sunday. So, in its first years, the paper was restricted to being a weekly publication, published on Saturdays, hence the name. Fighting Words (TV Series)
''Fighting Words'' is a Canadian panel quiz television series which aired on CBC Television from 1952 to 1962. The series returned for short runs in 1970 and 1982. Premise The series was hosted and moderated by ''Toronto Star'' columnist Nathan Cohen. The basic format featured four guest panelists who attempt to identify people who wrote or said a given a quotation, then discuss its subject. Each program featured three rounds of quotations on various topics, often illustrated by cartoons.Rutherford, p. 233 The series temporarily deviated from this format in November 1959 when it became a detailed interview between Cohen and a guest concerning a given subject. Queen's University at Kingston, commonly known as Queen's University or simply Queen's, is a public research university in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Queen's holds more than of land throughout Ontario and owns Herstmonceux Castle in East Sussex, England. Queen's is organized into eight faculties and schools.
