Our Love (1939 Song)
"Our Love" is a 1939 song by Larry Clinton, Buddy Bernier, and Bob Emmerich. It was recorded by Frank Sinatra and was his first recording. Some sources have said that this song was recorded a day before Sinatra married his first wife Nancy or a month later in March. This song did not make Sinatra famous, but in that year he joined the Harry James Orchestra, only to leave a year later to join Tommy Dorsey and his orchestra. It was with Dorsey that Sinatra had his first hit, with I'll Never Smile Again. Based on Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet, this is one of a group of songs from the Big Band jazz era that were written as popular adaptations of classical music. The song was recorded again in 1960 by George Greeley on his Warner Bros. (WS-1387) album ''Popular Piano Concertos of the World's Great Love Themes.'' Larry Clinton (August 17, 1909 – May 2, 1985) was an American musician, best known as a trumpeter who became a prominent American bandleader and arranger. Biography Clinton was born in Brooklyn, New York, United States. He became a versatile musician, playing trumpet, trombone, and clarinet. While in his twenties, he became a prolific arranger for dance orchestras; bandleaders Tommy Dorsey, Jimmy Dorsey, Glen Gray, Louis Armstrong, and Bunny Berigan all used Larry Clinton charts. His first stint as a bandleader was from 1937 to 1941, and he recorded a string of hits for Victor Records. Buddy Bernier
Henry 'Buddy' Bernier (April 21, 1910 – June 18, 1983) was an American lyricist born in Watertown, New York, who was mainly active during the 1940s and 1950s. He came from a show business family and had two sisters, Daisy and Peggy who were each a singer and actress respectively. His mother Margaret was also a singer and dancer. He was enlisted into the armed forces in April 1941 and served a corporal of the Lincoln Army Air Field before his discharge in March 1946. He died in June 1983 at the age of 73 due to alcoholic cardiomyopathy. Career Songwriter Among his earliest successes came in 1935, when he had a hit with the song "I Haven't Got A Hat". In 1937, he was credited with being responsible for a sudden dance craze named the "Big Apple", after being inspired by reading a newspaper clipping which mentioned a southern dance type around the floor in an apple shape. "I'll Never Smile Again" is a 1939 song written by Ruth Lowe. It has been recorded by many other artists since, becoming a standard. The most successful and best-known million selling single version of the song was recorded by Tommy Dorsey and His Orchestra, with vocals provided by Frank Sinatra and The Pied Pipers. George Greeley (born Georgio Guariglia; July 23, 1917 – May 26, 2007) was an Italian-American pianist, conductor, composer, arranger, recording artist and record producer who is known for his extensive work across the spectrum of the entertainment industry.
