Our Lady Of Grace Church (Chorão Island)
Our Lady of Grace Church is a Roman Catholic church in Chorão, Goa, India. It is bounded on its north and west by the Mapusa River, with Salvador do Mundo remaining exactly opposite to it. To the south is the river Mandovi with Ribandar opposite to it and to its east is the St Bartholomew's Church. History The Our Lady of Grace Church was built by Jesuits in 1551. The Church has 3 altars dedicated to Our Lady of Grace (Main Altar), Bom Jesus and Saint Roque. The first diocesan priest to be confirmed as Vicar of Our Lady of Grace Church was Fr. Bernard Coutinho (1598-1648) and retained this position for 50 years. He died on 14 December 1648. There is still epitaph of Grave of Fr. Bernard Coutinho in the Church. Alexandre Magno Abrão (9 April 1970 – 6 March 2013), known professionally as Chorão, was a Brazilian singer-songwriter, skateboarder, filmmaker, screenwriter and businessman. Best known for being a founding member and the vocalist/main lyricist of the influential alternative rock band Charlie Brown Jr., '' Folha de S.Paulo'' critic André Barcinski considered him "the nearest thing to a punk hero Brazilian mainstream music ever had", and Eduardo Tristão Girão of Portal Uai called him "the bad boy of Brazilian rock" and "the spokesman of the youth of the 1990s". Having been born and raised for most of his childhood in São Paulo, Chorão was the only Charlie Brown Jr. member not to hail originally from Santos, and its only founding member to remain consistently in all of the group's line-ups. Mapusa River
Mapusa River (Rio de Mapuça) river is one of the main tributary of the River Mandovi in Goa, India. The river originates from the jungles of Dumacem and Amthane, meanders eastward and then southward before it drains itself in the Mandovi river at Penha de France. Mapusa River has separated Corjuem from mainland Aldona. The Assonora River is the main tributary of Mapusa River. It is situated 12 km from the mapusa city which is a capital of the Bardez taluka and is one of the largest towns of Goa. It flows 20 kilometres in western direction. Salvador Do Mundo
Salvador do Mundo (Portuguese for ''Saviour of the World'') is a village in Bardez taluka, Goa, in India. The village is located south west of Socorro and east of Porvorim. The Mount has a Chapel, which is used to hold services during the Lenten Season. Geography Salvador do Mundo is located at 15°31′57″N 73°51′28″E. It has an elevation of 7 metres The school in Salvador do Mundo is known as Smt. Sunandabai Bandodkar High School, which is near the Village Panchayat. The Mahadayi/Mandovi River (''Mandovi'', pronounced ), also known as Mahadayi or Mhadei river, is described as the lifeline of the Indian state of Goa. Ribandar
Ribandar is a town in Tiswadi, Goa, located between the cities of Panjim (Nova Goa) and Old Goa (Velha Goa). Etymology The name Ribandar originates from "Rayachem Bandar" in Konkani meaning the wharves, docks or portage of the ''Rayas'' or Kings. It is unclear which kings are meant here. However, the Rayas of Sangama Dynasty of Vijayanagar are believed to have built this port. Geography Ribandar is located at and has an average elevation of . St Bartholomew's Church is a Roman Catholic church in Chorão, Goa, India. The Parish of St. Bartholomeu is made up of the villages of Caraim and the Passo de Ambarim. Its boundaries are the river of Mapusa to its north and west; on the opposite side of the river the parishes of Aldona and Pomburpa; the parish of Our Lady of Grace Church to the south and the river Naroa with the Parish of Pedade on the Island of Divar to its east. Real Colégio de Educação de Chorão is a defunct Catholic seminary that was founded on 2 April 1761 in Chorão (Island), Chorão, India. It belonged to the Parish of Our Lady of Grace Church (Chorão Island). History The Real Colégio de Educação de Chorão was instituted in the edifice for Jesuit Novices. This College was declared Seminary by the Royal Instructions to the Viceroy Conde de Ega dated 2 April 1761 written by the Secretary of State, Francisco Xavier de Mendonca Furtado. A large number of students attended the Seminary chiefly from Ilhas and Bardez and of these 19 were educated free by the state and were destined to work in the service of the Missions.
