Our Lady of Zahle and the Bekaa (also spelled Beqaa) is a Marian shrine located in the city of Zahlé in the Beqaa Valley of Lebanon. In 1958, Bishop Euthym, a man of great devotion to Our Lady, decided to build a shrine in honor of the Virgin Mary on the top of a hill overlooking Zahle and the Bekaa Valley. Zahlé
Zahlé ( ar, زَحْلة) is the capital and the largest city of Beqaa Governorate, Lebanon. With around 150,000 inhabitants, it is the third-largest city in Lebanon after Beirut and Tripoli and the fourth largest taking the whole urban area (the Jounieh urban area is larger). Zahlé is located east of the capital Beirut, close to the Beirut-Damascus road, and lies at the junction of the Lebanon mountains and the Beqaa plateau, at a mean elevation of 1,000 m. Zahlé is known as the "Bride of the Beqaa" and "the Neighbor of the Gorge" for its geographical location and attractiveness, but also as "the City of Wine and Poetry". Beqaa Valley
The Beqaa Valley ( ar, links=no, وادي البقاع, ', Lebanese ), also transliterated as Bekaa, Biqâ, and Becaa and known in classical antiquity as Coele-Syria, is a fertile valley in eastern Lebanon. It is Lebanon's most important farming region. Industry also flourishes in Beqaa, especially that related to agriculture. The Beqaa is located about east of Beirut. The valley is situated between Mount Lebanon to the west and the Anti-Lebanon Mountains to the east. It forms the northeasternmost extension of the Great Rift Valley, which stretches from Syria to the Red Sea. Beqaa Valley is long and wide on average. It has a Mediterranean climate of wet, often snowy winters and dry, warm summers. Eftimios Youakim
Eftimios Youakim, BS, (born on 15 June 1886 in Qaytuleh – died on 19 May 1972) was an Archbishop of the Melkite Greek Catholic Archeparchy of Zahle and Forzol in Lebanon. Life On 25 March 1912 Youakim was ordained priest and appointed Chaplain of the Melkite Basilians of the Most Holy Redeemer. The appointment as bishop of Zahle and Fourzol took place on October 30, 1926. The Patriarch of Antioch Cyril IX Moghabghab consecrated him bishop on 9 December 1926. With the elevation of the bishopric of Zahle and Fourzol in 1964 to Archdiocese Youakim was appointed archbishop. After his age-appropriate retirement on 21 August 1971, he was appointed Titular Archbishop of Scythospolis. Youakim participated from 1962 to 1965 in all sessions of the Second Vatican Council.
