Our Army At War
''Our Army at War'' was an American comic book anthology published by DC Comics that featured war-themed stories and featured the first appearances of Sgt. Rock and Enemy Ace. The series was published from August 1952 to February 1977, then was renamed ''Sgt. Rock'' in March 1977, continuing the numbering sequence of ''Our Army at War''. Publication history ''Our Army at War'' was launched in August 1952 as part of a wave of war comics. The stories were often followed by tag lines such as "Explosive Battle Action". One of the main characters was Sgt. Rock, who appeared in #81 (April 1959) as Sgt. Rocky along with his team, Easy Company. The character got his final name in issue #83. Writer Robert Kanigher and artist Joe Kubert introduced Enemy Ace in #151 (February 1965). Carmine Infantino
Carmine Michael Infantino (; May 24, 1925 – April 4, 2013) was an American comics artist and editing, editor, primarily for DC Comics, during the late 1950s and early 1960s period known as the Silver Age of Comic Books. Among his character creations are the Black Canary and the Flash (Barry Allen), Silver Age version of DC superhero the Flash (DC Comics character), Flash with writer Robert Kanigher, the stretching Elongated Man with John Broome (writer), John Broome, Barbara Gordon the second Batgirl with writer Gardner Fox, Deadman (comics), Deadman with writer Arnold Drake, and Christopher Chance, the second iteration of the Human Target with Len Wein. ''Showcase'' is a comic anthology series published by DC Comics. The general theme of the series was to feature new and minor characters as a way to gauge reader interest in them, without the difficulty and risk of featuring untested characters in their own ongoing titles. ''Showcase Presents'' was a line of black-and-white paperback books published by DC Comics (from 2005 - 2016) at an average rate of two per month. Much like Marvel Comics' '' Essential Marvel'' volumes, each book usually included over 500 pages of reprints, primarily from the Silver Age. Like the ''Essential'' line, a ''Showcase Presents'' volume carried the suggested retail price of US$16.99 (increased to $17.99 in September 2009) and was usually devoted to one character, "reprint ngall of their adventures in sequential order via cover date", or occasionally to a specific title rather than individual. Gemstone Publishing is an American company that publishes comic book price guides. The company was formed by Diamond Comic Distributors President and Chief Executive Officer Steve Geppi in 1994 when he bought Overstreet. Gemstone published licensed Disney comic books from June 2003 until November 2008. The company has also reprinted EC Comics of the 1950s. BOOM! Kids acquired all comic publishing licenses regarding Disney characters in the second half of 2009.
