Ouija Board Handicap
The Ouija Board Handicap is an American Thoroughbred horse race held annually on Memorial Day at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas. A Grade III event since 2003, it is contested on turf over a distance of one mile (8 furlongs) and is open to fillies and mares, age three and older. Inaugurated in 1997 as the Fort Worth Handicap, it was contested at a distance of miles until 1999 when it was renamed the Prestonwood Distaff Handicap and set at a distance of one mile. From 2000 through 2006 it was raced as the Winstar Distaff Handicap. In 2007, the race was renamed to honor superstar filly Ouija Board, the European Horse of the Year in 2004 and 2006 who won the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf in 2004 when the Breeders' Cup races were hosted by Lone Star Park. Lone Star Park
Lone Star Park is a horse racing track and entertainment destination located mile north of Interstate 30 on Belt Line Road in Grand Prairie, Texas, Grand Prairie, Texas. Lone Star Park has two live racing seasons every year; the spring Thoroughbred season generally runs from early April through mid-July, and the Fall Meeting of Champions generally runs from early September through mid-November. History In 1992 Grand Prairie voters approved a half-cent sales tax to assist in financial bonds to build a racetrack. Shortly thereafter, the city created a sports authority (the Grand Prairie Sports Facilities Development Corp.), which would own the track and lease it to a track operator. Patrick Biancone
Patrick Louis Biancone (born June 7, 1952 in Mont-de-Marsan, Landes, France) is a Thoroughbred racehorse trainer. He is currently based in the United States, but enjoyed success in both Europe and Hong Kong earlier in his career. He was the head trainer for the Daniel Wildenstein stable in France, where his horses won numerous important races including back-to-back victories (with All Along and Sagace) in the 1983 and 1984 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. After leaving his native France, for most of the 1990s Biancone trained in Hong Kong but in 1999 was suspended after two of his horses tested positive for banned medications. Biancone trained Triptych, who won the 1987 Irish Champion Stakes and the 1988 Coronation Cup. Josephine Avalona Abercrombie (January 15, 1926 – January 5, 2022) was an American horsewoman, businesswoman, boxing promoter, philanthropist, and founder of The Lexington School in Lexington, Kentucky. Early life and education Abercrombie was the daughter of Lillie Frank of Lake Charles, Louisiana and Houston oilman James Smither Abercrombie (1891-1975). She rode Quarter Horses on her father's ranch in west Texas then began taking lessons to ride a saddle horse before she was ten. That led to her competing in horse shows, including the Madison Square Garden where she won twelve blue ribbons at the 1953 National Horse Show. She traveled back and forth to board school between shows in a private jet. She graduated from Pine Manor Junior College then Rice University in 1946. Julien R. Leparoux (born July 15, 1983 in Senlis, Oise, France) is a French Eclipse Award winning jockey currently racing in the United States. He has won seven Breeders' Cup races, including the 2015 Breeders' Cup Mile with Champion Turf Mare Tepin and the 2016 Breeders' Cup Juvenile with Classic Empire. Steven Mark Asmussen (born November 18, 1965) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse trainer. The leading trainer in North America by wins, he is a two-time winner of the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Trainer and was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 2016. His horses have won the Breeders' Cup Classic, Preakness Stakes, Belmont Stakes, Travers Stakes, Breeders' Cup Distaff, Kentucky Oaks and Dubai World Cup.
