Otto Henne Am Rhyn
Otto Henne am Rhyn (August 26, 1828 in St. Gallen, Switzerland, St. Gallen – April 30, 1914 in Weiz) was a Swiss people, Swiss writer. He was a son of Josef Anton Henne called "von Sargans". After marrying Elisabeth am Rhyn, a member of the important Lucerne family am Rhyn, he added her name to his own family name. After studying philosophy and history in Bern and Geneva, he became a teacher at a school in St. Gallen in 1857. Between 1859 and 1877, as well as between 1885 and 1912, he was state archivist in St. Gallen. Between 1872 and 1879, he had been an editor in Leipzig and Jelenia Góra, Hirschberg (Silesia), from 1879 to 1885 at the NZZ. Since 1861, he was an active member of the Freemasons. Josef Anton Henne
Josef Anton Henne (known as Anton Henne, born 22 July 1798 in Sargans, died 22 November 1870 in Wolfhalden, Appenzell) was a Swiss historian and politician active during the formative phase of the modern Swiss state. Henne's paternal grandparents had immigrated to Sargans from Allgäu, Bavaria. He entered Pfävers abbey at the age of 12 and became a novice at 17, but after a period of uncertainty, he left the monastery on 22 July 1817. He was further educated at Lucerne and at the universities of Heidelberg and Freiburg. In 1826 he became curator of the St. Gallen Abbey Library. In 1828, he published the first volume of a popular History of Switzerland (covering the period up to 1400). His aim was to present counter-position to the historiography of Heinrich Zschokke. An open exchange between Zschokke and Henne took place in 1830, after Zschokke in his journal ''Schweizerboten'' published a damning recension of the weekly ''Der Freimüthige'' edited by Henne from 1830 to 1838. ... Paul Gustave Louis Christophe Doré ( , , ; 6 January 1832 – 23 January 1883) was a French artist, as a printmaker, illustrator, painter, comics artist, caricaturist, and sculptor. He is best known for his prolific output of wood-engravings, especially those illustrating classic books, including 241 illustrating the Bible. These achieved great international success, and he is the best-known artist in this printmaking technique, although his role was normally as the designer only; at the height of his career some 40 block-cutters were employed to cut his drawings onto the wooden printing blocks, usually also signing the image.
