Francis Oswell
Francis Bruce Oswell (1920-2003) was an Australian architect from Queensland, one of the first to design high rise apartment buildings in Brisbane. Early life and career Francis Bruce Oswell was born on 11 January 1920 in Malvern, Victoria. He studied engineering at the University of Melbourne part time beginning in 1939 before enlisting in the Army and RAAF during WW2. He studied his Diploma in Architecture from the Central Technical College in Brisbane and later at the University of Queensland, graduating in 1952 with his Graduate Diploma in Architecture. He had worked as a draughtsman for Bligh Jessup in 1949. His firm F.B. Oswell and Associates found steady work as a result of the post war boom for housing, employing a number of architectural students. He moved his firm out of the centre of Brisbane city and into nearby Spring Hill where a number of other architects had moved their business. Jason Oswell
Jason Oswell (born 7 October 1992) is an English footballer who plays as a striker for Cymru Premier side Newtown. Following successful loan spells with Market Drayton Town and Nantwich Town, he turned professional at Crewe Alexandra in summer 2011. He spent the first half of the 2011–12 season on loan at Rhyl, before he was allowed to move on to Inverness Caledonian Thistle in June 2012. He failed to establish himself in the first-team and left the club in January 2013, ending the 2012–13 season at non-league sides Nantwich Town and Witton Albion. He spent four months in Australia with APIA Leichhardt Tigers from May 2013, where he won the Waratah Cup. William Cotton Oswell
William Cotton Oswell (27 April 1818 – 1 May 1893) was an English explorer in Africa and other areas. He was born in Leytonstone, Essex and attended Rugby School. In 1837 he secured a position with the East India Company in Madras through his uncle John Cotton, who was a director of the company. He spent ten years there, learning Tamil and other languages and studying surgery and medicine. He was sent to South Africa for health reasons, and explored the Kalahari desert in Bechuanaland (now Botswana) and located Lake Ngami. He participated in expeditions to the Zambezi river with David Livingstone; one of Livingstone's children, born in Botswana in 1851, was named William Oswell Livingstone. On another expedition he became the first European to see Mumbuluma Falls and Kalambo Falls in what has since become Zambia. Oswell Blakeston
Oswell Blakeston was the pseudonym of Henry Joseph Hasslacher (1907–1985), a British writer and artist who also worked in the film industry, made some experimental films, and wrote extensively on film theory. He was also a poet and wrote in non-fiction areas including travel, cooking and pets. His pseudonym combined a reference to the writer Osbert Sitwell with his mother's maiden name. Life Blakeston was born to a family of Austrian origin. At age 16 he ran away, becoming a conjuror’s assistant, a cinema organist and studio clapperboy. Blakeston joined the staff of ''Close Up'', the magazine of the Pool Group, in August 1927.
