Ostwig House
Haus Ostwig is a manor house in Bestwig, Hochsauerlandkreis. The house, previously owned by the Hanxleden family, is now owned by the Lüninck family. History The Ostwig Estate was first mentioned in a document from the Abbey Königsmünster in 1200. In 1299, Count Ludwig von Arnsberg purchased the estate. In the fifteenth century the house was constructed. In 1539 the manor was acquired by Johann von Hanxleden zu Anröchte. In the seventeenth century additions were made to the manor. In 1699, the property was combined with the Borg and Brockhausen estates. When the Ostwiger line of von Hanxlebens went extinct in 1771, the property passed to the Barons of Lüninck. Baron Ferdinand von Lüninck and Baroness Hedwig von Lüninck were both born in the house. Bestwig
Bestwig is a municipality in the Hochsauerland district, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Geography Bestwig is situated on the river Ruhr, approx. 10 km east of Meschede. It lies on the German Autobahn A 46. Bestwig has a railway station, connecting the town through local trains to Dortmund Hauptbahnhof, Winterberg and Hagen Hauptbahnhof. Hochsauerlandkreis (meaning “High Sauerland District” in German) is a Kreis (district) in the east of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Neighboring districts are Soest, Paderborn, Höxter, Waldeck-Frankenberg, Siegen-Wittgenstein, Olpe, Märkischer Kreis. The district is named “High Sauerland” because two of the highest mountains of the Sauerland mountainous landscape, Langenberg and Kahler Asten are in its territory. Hanxleden
The Hanxleden is a Westphalian noble family whose seat is the village of , today part of Schmallenberg in the district of Hochsauerland in Germany. In the 14th and 15th centuries the family provided several bailiffs (''Amtmänner'') of Fredeburg. History Family tree ''Siegfried von Hanxleden'' (b about 1180, d after 1279) lived as knight (''Ritter'') in Hanxleden and took part in the Fifth Crusade from 1217 to 1221. Ferdinand Von Lüninck
Ferdinand Joseph Meinolph Anton Maria Freiherr von Lüninck (3 August 1888 – 14 November 1944) was a German landowner and officer. Born at the family estate Haus Ostwig, in Ostwig, Province of Westphalia, Ferdinand Freiherr von Lüninck was married to Auguste Freiin von Gaugreben-Schönau, with whom he had two daughters and three sons. Ferdinand Freiherr von Lüninck studied law and eventually adopted a career in government. After the First World War, he was until 1922 District Administrator (''Landrat'') in Neuss. Later, after his father's death, he moved back to his family home to administer the estate, and became active in the Westphalia ''Landwirtschaftskammer'', a body representing and regulating matters relating to rural interests and forests.
