Oscar W. Gillespie
Oscar William Gillespie (June 20, 1858 – August 23, 1927) was a U.S. Representative for the state of Texas. Born near Quitman, Mississippi, Gillespie attended private schools and graduated from Mansfield College, Texas, in 1885. He studied law. He was admitted to the bar in 1886 and commenced his law practice in Fort Worth, Texas. He was assistant attorney of Tarrant County from 1886 to 1888. He then served as prosecuting attorney of Tarrant County from 1890 to 1894. Gillespie was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-eighth Congress from Texas's 12th congressional district, and to the three succeeding Congresses, serving from March 4, 1903 until March 4, 1911. He was an unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1910. Gillespie's original nomination to Congress was the result of a game of lots. Texas's 12th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives is in the north portion of the state of Texas. As of 2017, the 12th district contained 806,551 people and had a median income of $67,703. It consists of the western half of Tarrant County, as well as most of Parker County. The district also contains Texas Christian University. Fragments of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex are included in the district. Oscar Callaway
Francis Oscar Callaway (October 2, 1872 – January 31, 1947) was a three-term U.S. Representative from Texas' twelfth district from 1911 to 1917. Biography Born on October 2, 1872, in Harmony Hill (Nip-and-Tuck), Rusk County, Texas, Callaway moved with his parents to Comanche County in 1876. He attended the University of Texas at Austin from 1897 to 1899 and graduated from its law department in 1900. He was admitted to the bar the same year and served as prosecuting attorney of Comanche County from 1900 to 1902. On December 29, 1904, he married Stella Couch. He served as delegate to Democratic State conventions in 1896, 1898, 1900-1916, and 1920-1926. Quitman, Mississippi
Quitman is a city in Clarke County, Mississippi, United States, along the Chickasawhay River. The population was 2,323 at the 2010 census. Quitman is the county seat of Clarke County. History Quitman was established in 1839 and named as the county seat. During the Civil War, a hospital built with funds raised in Galveston and Houston, among other places, was built there for the care of Confederate soldiers from Texas. Originally staffed by Dr. Louis Bryan with supplies purchased in Mexico, he was joined, and later supplanted, by Dr. Enos Bonney, a surgeon from Enterprise, Mississippi, who stayed until the hospital was burned down.
