Orex Exploration
Orex Exploration is a former Canadian gold mining company that conducted exploration work on mining properties it owned in the Goldboro and Guysborough County areas of Nova Scotia. The properties owned by Orex were the sites of the former Boston Richardson Mine, Dolliver Mountain Mine, West Goldbrook Mine, and East Goldbrook Mine which operated between 1892 and 1912. Headquartered in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, the company was founded in 1987 and raised funds for exploration work, in part, by issuing stocks traded on the Montreal Stock Exchange and then the TSX Venture Exchange. It became a subsidiary of Anaconda Mining Inc. after Anaconda acquired the company in a stock swap deal in 2017. OREX (Orbital Re-entry Experiment) was a National Space Development Agency of Japan, NASDA re-entry demonstrator prototype which was launched in 1994 on the H-II launcher; the satellite was renamed . It was a precursor for the Japanese space shuttle HOPE-X, HOPE. OREX tested various communications systems, heating profiles and heat shielding components for HOPE. The Osisko Mining Corporation (formerly Oban Mining Corporation) is a Canadian company that conducts mineral exploration work with a focus on seeking to develop a gold mine in Ontario or Quebec. The company adopted its name following the 2015 merger of five companies that resulted in the re-uniting of the executive management team of the original Osisko Mining Corporation. The new Osisko Mining Corporation is the continuation of Oban Mining Corporation, which itself was the result of the 2014 merger between two Toronto Stock Exchange-listed mineral exploration companies active in South America, Braeval Mining Corporation and Oban Exploration Limited. Nova Scotia Archives is a governmental archival institution serving the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. The archives acquires, preserves and makes available the province's documentary heritage – recorded information of provincial significance created or accumulated by government and the private sector over the last 300 years. The idea for a provincial archives and a Provincial Archivist first took root on April 30, 1857 when a resolution was put forward in the Legislative Assembly (moved by Joseph Howe, and seconded by James W. Johnston), making it the first provincial archives in Canada. Thomas Beamish Akins, a lawyer, historian, archivist, and author, was appointed Nova Scotia's first Commissioner of Public Records from 1857 until his death in 1891. Seal Harbour, Nova Scotia
Seal Harbour is a community in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, located in Guysborough County. Located on the east side of Isaac's Harbour, it was named for the abundance of seals once found there. Founded as a fishing settlement, it became a gold mining community with the initial discovery in the area in 1867, with further discoveries in 1892. Gold mining near Seal Harbour peaked in 1904–1907. The mines briefly reopened from 1939 to 1942 and then closed, leaving fishing and lumbering as the main industries.
