Oregon–Oregon State Football Rivalry
The Oregon-Oregon State Football Game (Civil War) is an American college football rivalry game played annually in the state of Oregon between the Ducks of the University of Oregon in Eugene and the Beavers of Oregon State University in Corvallis. First played in 1894, it is the fifth- most played college football rivalry game in the Football Bowl Subdivision. Both universities are members of the North Division of the Pac-12 Conference and the campuses are less than apart in the Willamette Valley. The series has now been played continuously since 1945. Though not officially recognized by the universities, the Platypus Trophy is awarded annually to the winning alumni association. Oregon Ducks Football
The Oregon Ducks football program is a college football team for the University of Oregon, located in the U.S. state of Oregon. The team competes at the NCAA Division I level in the FBS and is a member of the Pac-12 Conference (Pac-12). Although now known as the Ducks, the team was commonly called the Webfoots until the mid-1960s. The program first fielded a football team in 1894. Oregon plays its home games at the 54,000 seat Autzen Stadium in Eugene. Its main rivals are the Oregon State Beavers and the Washington Huskies. The Ducks and Beavers historically end each regular season with their rivalry game in late November. The program has been one of the most successful programs since the 2010s. Hayward Field
Hayward Field is a track and field stadium in the northwest United States, located on the campus of the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon. It has been the home of the university's track and field teams since 1921, and was the on-campus home of the varsity football team from 1919 through 1966. Track and field competitions at the stadium are organized by the not-for-profit organization TrackTown USA. Hayward Field was named after track coach Bill Hayward (1868–1947), who ran the Ducks' program from 1904 to 1947. 1933 Stanford Indians Football Team
The 1933 Stanford Indians football team represented Stanford University in the 1933 college football season. In head coach Tiny Thornill's first season, the Indians allowed only 36 points during the entire regular season and logged four shutout victories. The team was Pacific Coast Conference co-champions with Oregon and was selected to represent the conference in the Rose Bowl. Heavy favorites in the Rose Bowl against Columbia, the Indians, led by quarterback Frank Alustiza and fullback Bobby Grayson, dominated the line of scrimmage, with Grayson rushing for 152 yards on 28 carries, more than the entire Columbia team—but eight fumbles and a stiff goal line defense by Columbia kept Stanford from scoring, and the lone score, via a hidden ball play, gave the Lions the upset. Mike Mikulak
Michael Nicholas "Iron Mike" Mikulak (December 2, 1912 – June 4, 1999) was an American football fullback who played three seasons in the National Football League. High school and college career Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Mikulak graduated from Edison High School in 1930. He attended the University of Oregon. Though originally a defensive player, Mikulak became Oregon's starting fullback and helped lead the Ducks to a 4–1 Pacific Coast Conference record in 1933, tying them with Stanford for the conference championship. (Stanford, however, received the bid to the 1934 Rose Bowl due to its victory over USC, the only team to beat the Ducks that year.)
