Oregon State Beavers Wrestling
The Oregon State Beavers wrestling program was established in 1909, competing in collegiate wrestling across 95 seasons since then. Traditionally a national powerhouse, the Beavers won the Amateur Athletic Union national championship in 1926 (Oregon State's first national championship in any sport) and have won their conference championship 52 times. The team has produced 99 All-Americans, 12 individual national champions, and is associated with five National Wrestling Hall of Fame members. The team has finished their season ranked in the NCAA top 25 on 43 occasions, including finishing 20 seasons in the top 10 and two seasons as national runners-up. Chris Pendleton (Oklahoma State) is the head coach. It will be his first season in 2020–21. He replaces Jim Zalesky. Chris Pendleton
Chris Pendleton (born January 21, 1982) is a former American wrestler who competed collegiately for Oklahoma State University. Pendleton won NCAA Division I wrestling titles at 174 pounds in 2004 and 2005 and was a three-time All-American. Biography Pendleton won the 145-pound California state championship his senior year at Lemoore High School in Lemoore, California. His senior year performance in 2000 earned him the Junior Schalles Award as the top high school pinner. In college, he defeated future two-time NCAA champion, Dan Hodge Trophy winner, and MMA world champion Ben Askren of Missouri for both of his NCAA titles. Pendleton had beaten Askren in the majority of their meetings and provoked controversy after telling a reporter that there was no "rivalry" between them. Jess Lewis
Jess Lewis (born July 28, 1947 in Aumsville, Oregon) is a retired amateur wrestler and American football player who played in the National Football League (NFL) for the Houston Oilers in 1970. He graduated from Cascade High School in Turner, Oregon. College Wrestling Lewis was an accomplished wrestler for Oregon State, becoming a three-time conference champion (1968–1970), three-time All-American (1968–1970), and a two-time NCAA champion (1969, 1970) in the heavyweight division. John August Witte (January 29, 1933 – March 17, 1993) was an American football tackle who played one season with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the ninth round of the 1955 NFL Draft. Early life Witte played college football at Oregon State University and attended Klamath Union High School in Klamath Falls, Oregon. He was a Consensus All-American in 1956. Howard Harris (wrestler)
Howard Harris (born February 9, 1958) is a former All-American wrestler at Oregon State University who won the 1980 NCAA wrestling heavyweight championship and was named the outstanding wrestler of the tournament. High school Harris attended McNary High School in Keizer, OR, winning the state team championship as a junior in 1975. He was undefeated that year until the state tournament finals when he had to forfeit due to an injury. In 1976, his senior year, McNary placed second in state but Harris won an individual state championship while being undefeated at 191 lbs. He completed his high school wrestling career with a mark of 80-5.
