Order Of Seraphim
The Royal Order of the Seraphim ( sv, Kungliga Serafimerorden; ''Seraphim'' being a category of angels) is a Swedish order of chivalry created by King Frederick I on 23 February 1748, together with the Order of the Sword and the Order of the Polar Star. The order has only one class with the dignity of ''Knight'' (''Member'' for women and ''Member of the Cloth'' for clergymen), and is the foremost order of Sweden. The three above-mentioned Orders together with the Order of Vasa form the Orders of His Majesty the King (Swedish ''Kungl. Maj:ts Orden''). A Swedish Knight of the Order of the Seraphim is not referred to as a Knight of the Seraphim, but rather as a ''Knight and Commander of the Orders of His Majesty the King'' ( sv, Riddare och Kommendör av Kunglig Majestäts Orden). Serafimerlasarettet
Serafimerlasarettet (Seraphim Hospital), popularly known as ''Serafen'', was the first modern hospital in Sweden. It was located in Kungsholmen in Stockholm and active from 1752 to 1980. The current building still houses the local emergency department of Serafen. The hospital is mentioned in Carl Michael Bellman's 1790 song "Ge rum i Bröllopsgåln din hund!", Fredman's Epistle no. 40, where even the priest at the wedding party steals from the collection meant for the hospital; and in Epistle 48, " Solen glimmar blank och trind", where it is one of the sights seen from Ulla Winblad's boat as she returns from Hessingen in Lake Mälaren to Stockholm. The acanthus ( grc, ἄκανθος) is one of the most common plant forms to make foliage ornament and decoration, and even as the leaf distinguishing the heraldic coronet of a manorial lord from other coronets of royalty or nobility, which use strawberry leaves. Architecture In architecture, an ornament may be carved into stone or wood to resemble leaves from the Mediterranean species of the '' Acanthus'' genus of plants, which have deeply cut leaves with some similarity to those of the thistle and poppy. Both ''Acanthus mollis'' and the still more deeply cut ''Acanthus spinosus'' have been claimed as the main model, and particular examples of the motif may be closer in form to one or the other species; the leaves of both are, in any case, rather variable in form. Seraphim Medal
The Seraphim Medal ( sv, Serafimermedaljen) is a royal medal of Sweden. Established in 1748, it is awarded by the King of Sweden for service that benefits society or service of a humanitarian nature. Appearance The Seraphim Medal is a gold medal of the 8th size. The obverse of the medal bears the effigy of Frederick I of Sweden, King Frederick I with the inscription above ''FREDERICUS D.G. REX SUECIAE''. The reverse of the medal bears these words in the centre: ''ORDO EQ SERAPHIN · RESTAURATUS NATALI REGIS LXXIII ·'' (Order of the Seraphim restored on the seventy-third birthday of the King). The Order of the Holy Spirit (french: Ordre du Saint-Esprit; sometimes translated into English as the Order of the Holy Ghost), is a French order of chivalry founded by Henry III of France in 1578. The Order of Amarante, or Amarante Order (French: ''La frairie d'Amarante''; Swedish: ''Amaranterorden''), was a fraternal order of Swedish knights, founded in 1653 by Queen Christina of Sweden at Epiphany. The Order was established in honor and memory of her meetings with the Spanish ambassador Antonio Pimentel de Prado, who originated from Amarante, Portugal. Christina ( sv, Kristina, 18 December (New Style) 1626 – 19 April 1689), a member of the House of Vasa, was Queen of Sweden in her own right from 1632 until her abdication in 1654. Eric XIV
Eric XIV ( sv, Erik XIV; 13 December 153326 February 1577) was King of Sweden from 1560 until he was deposed in 1569. Eric XIV was the eldest son of Gustav I (1496–1560) and Catherine of Saxe-Lauenburg (1513–1535). He was also ruler of Estonia, after its conquest by Sweden in 1561. While he has been regarded as intelligent and artistically skilled, as well as politically ambitious, early in his reign he showed signs of mental instability, a condition that eventually led to insanity. Some scholars claim that his illness began early during his reign, while others believe that it first manifested with the Sture murders. Eric, having been deposed and imprisoned, was most likely murdered. An examination of his remains in 1958 confirmed that he probably died of arsenic poisoning.
