The Order of Industrial Service Merit (Hangul: 산업훈장, Hanja: 産業勳章) is an order of merit of South Korea (the Republic of Korea). It is presented to individuals and businesses who have contributed to the development of industry and the national economy. Grades The Order of Industrial Service Merit is divided into five classes. Order Of Merit
The Order of Merit (french: link=no, Ordre du Mérite) is an order of merit for the Commonwealth realms, recognising distinguished service in the armed forces, science, art, literature, or for the promotion of culture. Established in 1902 by King Edward VII, admission into the order remains the personal gift of its Sovereign—currently Edward VII's great-great-grandson, Charles III—and is restricted to a maximum of 24 living recipients from the Commonwealth realms, plus a limited number of honorary members. While all members are awarded the right to use the post-nominal letters ''OM'' and wear the badge of the order, the Order of Merit's precedence among other honours differs between countries. Carl Ferris Miller
Carl Ferris Miller (1921–2002), also known by the Korean name Min Byung-gal (민병갈), was an American-born South Korean banker and arborist. Dr CF Miller is the best known as the founder of the Chollipo Arboretum Foundation in Taean-gun, South Chungcheong Province, South Korea, and one of the first Americans to be naturalized as a South Korean citizen. Early life Miller, a native of Pittston, Pennsylvania, was a Phi Beta Kappa chemistry major in college. With the outbreak of World War II, he studied Japanese at the US Navy Japanese/Oriental Language School at the University of Colorado at Boulder. He went on to serve as a Naval Intelligence Officer. In 1945 he was assigned to seek out Japanese soldiers still on the island of Okinawa, questioning village residents during the day. Kim Chong-Hee
Kim Chong-Hee (1922–1981) was the founder of Hanwha Group and a leading figure of the South Korean explosives industry. Korea Explosives Corporation Kim established the Korea Explosives Corporation, a forerunner of the Hanwha Corporation, in 1952. Recognizing that the explosives industry is essential to the country's industrial development, he devoted himself to the localization of explosives all his life. He succeeded in domestically producing dynamite in 1957, and began its commercial production from 1958, significantly contributing to South Korea's industrial growth by enabling the construction of the national infrastructure, including bridges, tunnels and highways. Kim Swoo-geun
Kim Swoo Geun (February 20, 1931 – June 14, 1986) was a prominent South Korean architect, educator, publisher and patron of artists. Along with architect Kim Joong Up (김중업), he is recognised as a significant contributor in the history of Korean architecture. With his support for diverse art genres of Korean culture, he was referred to as Lorenzo de Medici of Seoul by ''TIME'' in 1977. Biography Kim Swoo Geun was born the first son of Kim Yong-hwan (김용환) and Kim Usudal (김우수달) in Sinap-dong (신압동), Chongjin, North Hamgyong province. Kim Joong-up
Kim Joong-eop (1922–1988) was a prominent Korean architect and educator. He was born in Pyongyang as the second son of his father, Kim Yeong-pil (金永弼) and his mother, Yi Yeong-ja (李英子). He had six siblings; four brothers, and two sisters. He spent his childhood in various places such as Gangdong, Junghwa, Seongcheon and others due to his father's job as the country headman of the places. Kim was awarded the 1962 Cultural Award from Seoul Metropolitan Government in 1962, Chevalier from the France government in 1965, Order of Industrial Service Merit from the South Korea government in 1985. He designed the Main Gate and a memorial hall at the United Nations Memorial Cemetery in Busan. Hyun Jae-hyun
Hyun Jae-Hyun (born February 12, 1949) is chairman of Tongyang Group, a South Korean conglomerate founded in 1957 as a cement manufacturer. Career Starting in the mid-1980s, Hyun began diversifying the Tongyang Group's business structure, and by 1989, he re-introduced Tongyang into the business community as a finance-based service provider. Today, in addition to being the second largest cement manufacturer in Korea, Tongyang offers a comprehensive range of financial services that include securities brokerage, investment banking, asset management and life insurance. He was arrested on January 14, 2014 on suspicions of fraudulent sales of corporate bonds and commercial papers. In 2014 he was jailed for 12 years for fraud.
