Nikolaos Kladas
Nikolaos Kladas ( el, Νικόλαος Κλαδάς) was a Hellenic Army officer who reached the rank of major general. He was born at Lixouri in 1871. After studies in the Hellenic Army Academy, he was commissioned an artillery lieutenant in 1892. He fought in the Greco-Turkish War of 1897 and in the Balkan Wars of 1912–1913, where he distinguished himself by saving his battery during the Battle of Sorovich. Kladas was respected for his professional erudition, and wrote a number of studies on tactics, including the first Greek treatise on the use of the machine gun in the battlefield. During the mobilization of 1915, as a lieutenant colonel, he chose to command a battalion of the 1st Field Artillery Regiment, before being appointed as deputy commander of the Army Academy. Alexandros Merentitis
Alexandros Merentitis ( el, Αλέξανδρος Μερεντίτης, c. 1880–1964) was a Hellenic Army officer who rose to the rank of Major General. He participated in all Greek wars of the early 20th century, served as effective Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff in 1928–1929, General Secretary of the newly established Aviation Ministry in 1930–1934, and briefly as General-Governor of Northern Greece and Minister of Military Affairs in 1945. Biography Alexandros Merentitis was born in Thebes in about 1880. He enrolled in the Hellenic Military Academy and graduated on 6 July 1902 as an Artillery 2nd Lieutenant. In 1908, he participated in the last stages of the Macedonian Struggle, under the ''nom de guerre'' of "Doukas". Nikolaos Trikoupis ( el, Νικόλαος Τρικούπης; 1868–1956) was a Greek general and politician, most notable for his service in the Greco-Turkish War of 1919–1922, where he was taken as a prisoner of war. He also participated in the 1896 Summer Olympics, where he came third in the military rifle. Life Born in Mesolongi in 1868 to Themistoklis Trikoupis (member of the Trikoupis family, related to PM Charilaos Trikoupis), he entered the Hellenic Military Academy, which he graduated in 1888 as an Artillery Second Lieutenant. He furthered his studies in France, where he remained from 1889 to 1895, completing his tour there with courses at the ''École Supérieure de Guerre''. He competed at the 1896 Summer Olympics, held in Athens, in the military rifle and the free rifle events. Seyitgazi is a town and district of Eskişehir Province in the Central Anatolia region of Turkey. Independent Division (Greece)
The Independent Division ( gr, Ἀνεξάρτητος Μεραρχία, Anexartitos Merarchia) was an infantry division of the Greek Army during the Greco-Turkish War of 1919–1922. Originally formed in July 1921 in Eastern Thrace under Major General Georgios Leonardopoulos to take part in the envisaged, but never realized, occupation of Constantinople, it was transferred to the front in Asia Minor in August. The division captured the town of Seyitgazi in September, and remained there in defensive positions until the Turkish offensive in August 1922. The collapse of the Army of Asia Minor's front and the subsequent Turkish advance left the division, now commanded by Colonel Dimitrios Theotokis, effectively cut off behind enemy lines. Dimitrios Papanikolaou (alternate spelling: Dimitris) ( el, Δημήτρης Παπανικολάου; born February 7, 1977, in Nea Liosia, Athens, Greece) is a retired Greek professional basketball player and a professional basketball coach.
