Oras, Eastern Samar
Oras (), officially the Municipality of Oras ( war, Bungto han Oras; tl, Bayan ng Oras), is a 3rd class municipality in the province of Eastern Samar, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 37,451 people. History In 1948, San Policarpo was created from the barrios of San Policarpo, Bahay, Alugan, Pangpang, Japonan, Tabo, Binogawan and Cajag-wayan, which used to belong to Oras. The territory of Oras was further reduced two years later, when Arteche was created from the barrios of San Ramon, Carapdapan, Beri, Tangbo, Catumsan, Bego, Concepcion, Casidman, Tawagan, and Tibalawon. In 1952, the sitios of Trinidad, Tula, Pota, Palao, Sinalo-an, Tamse-on, Cagmalobago, and Maycorot, in the barrio of Agsam, were separated from said barrio and created into the barrio of Trinidad. Allan Oras (born 20 December 1975) is an Estonian cyclist. He was born in Tartu. In 1994 he graduated from Tartu School of Construction and Light Industry (). He began his cycling career in 1988, coached by Harald Osjamets. From 1991 to 2001 his coach was Rein Pruuli. In 2019 he won the gold medal at the European Mountain Bike Championships in the cross-country marathon. He is multiple-times Estonian champion in different cycling disciplines. From 1995 to 2011 he was a member of Estonian national cycling team. Ants Oras
Ants Oras (8 December 1900 – 21 December 1982) was an Estonian translator and writer. Oras was born in Tallinn and studied at the University of Tartu, graduating with a Master of Philosophy degree in 1923. He also obtained a Bachelor of Literature degree from Oxford University. From 1928 through 1934, he was a lecturer at both Tartu and Helsinki University. Between 1934 and 1943 he was a professor at Tartu. Oras fled to Sweden in 1943 during World War II and the Soviet occupation of the Baltic states (1944), Soviet occupation of Estonia, then to England in 1949, then on to the United States where he settled in Gainesville, Florida. From 1957 to 1958 he was a visiting professor at Helsinki University, and in 1965 he became a US State Department visiting lecturer in Sweden. In 1972 he became professor of English at the University of Florida in Gainesville and received an honorary doctorate from that university in 1975. He died in Gainesville, Florida, aged 82. Lee Oras Overholts
Lee Oras Overholts (23 June 1890 – 10 November 1946) was an American mycologist known for his expertise on polypore fungi. Personal life Lee Oras Overholts was born in Camden, Ohio and attended Miami University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1912. His postgraduate education was at Washington University where his Ph.D. was awarded in 1915. He was married twice, to Flora May Conarroe (died 7 June 1944) and then Marie Knautz. He had four children, two girls and two boys. Overholts died 10 November 1946 at State College after a very short illness although he had been unwell for the five previous years. Scientific career During the course of his graduate school research, he met prominent mycologists such as Bruce Fink, Frank Dunn Kern, and Edward Angus Burt and developed an interest in the polypores. Oras Tynkkynen (Topi Oras Kalevi Tynkkynen, born 1977) was a Member of the Parliament of Finland, representing the Green League. Tynkkynen was the chair of the Green parliamentary group. He served as Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen's Advisor on Climate Policy. Also Tynkkynen is a Member of the City Council of Tampere and an environmental activist. He has also held positions in numerous other organisations, such as Friends of the Earth Finland. Oras Tynkkynen became a member of Parliament in 2004 as a replacement when Satu Hassi left her seat upon her election to the European Parliament. He was directly elected to the Parliament in 2007.
