Opinion Polling For The 2021 Chilean Presidential Election
After the previous 2017 Chilean general election in November and December, different polling companies published surveys that tracked voting intention for the 2021 Chilean general election, especially the presidential election. Outgoing president Sebastián Piñera was not eligible for reelection. 2021 Chilean presidential primaries, Official primaries were held on 18 July where two coalitions, left-wing Apruebo Dignidad and right-wing Chile Vamos, chose their respective presidential candidates Gabriel Boric and Sebastián Sichel. Centre-left coalition New Social Pact held their own primary on 21 August 2021 where they selected Yasna Provoste as their official candidate. 2017 Chilean General Election
General elections were held in Chile on 19 November 2017, including presidential, parliamentary and regional elections. Voters went to the polls to elect: * A President of the Republic to serve a four-year term. * Twenty three of 43 members of the Senate to serve an eight-year term in the National Congress. * The full 155 members of the Chamber of Deputies to serve a four-year term in the National Congress. * The full 278 members of the regional boards to serve a four-year term. In the presidential election, opposition candidate and former president Sebastián Piñera took a lower than expected 36% of the vote—though nearly 14 points ahead of his closest contender, senator Alejandro Guillier, backed by the sitting administration. Patriotic Union (Chile)
Patriotic Union ( es, Unión Patriótica, UPA) was a far-left Chilean political party. It was founded in September 2015 and is led by Eduardo Artés, general secretary of the Chilean Communist Party (Proletarian Action). Legally registered in 2016, it first appeared in the municipal elections of that year. The party obtained 0.32% of the total votes but no candidates were elected to any council. It was declared as an anti-imperialist, progressive, patriotic and populist party. Its leader has expressed sympathy with the government of North Korea and the government of President Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela. For the 2017 elections, the party proclaimed Artés as its presidential candidate, where he finished in seventh place in the first round. Pamela Jiles Moreno (born 30 November 1960) is a Chilean journalist and politician, currently serving as a member of the Chamber of Deputies, representing District 12 of the Santiago Metropolitan Region. Throughout her career, Jiles has gained attention for her confrontational personality. She has gained the nickname "Abuela" (Grandma). Biography Jiles studied journalism at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. Constituent Unity
Constituent Unity ( es, Unidad Constituyente) was a political alliance in Chile. It included the former members of the Concentration of Parties for Democracy (the Christian Democratic Party, Radical Party, Socialist Party, and Party for Democracy), plus the Progressive Party and Citizens. This alliance was created in light of the municipal, regional and Constitutional Convention elections, held in May 2021. For the municipal elections, the alliance ran as two lists: Unity for the Approval (including the former members of Progressive Convergence: PS, PPD and PR) and Unity for Dignity (PDC, PRO and Citizens). Antofagasta Region
The Antofagasta Region ( es, Región de Antofagasta, ) is one of Chile's sixteen first-order administrative divisions. The second-largest region of Chile in area, it comprises three provinces, Antofagasta, El Loa and Tocopilla. José Antonio Kast Rist (born 18 January 1966), also known by his initials JAK, is a Chilean lawyer and politician. Kast ran for president in 2021, winning the first round and losing in the second round run-off to Gabriel Boric. Part of a prominent political family, his father Michael Kast was a lieutenant in the Nazi Germany Army and his brother Miguel Kast worked as the minister of State and president of the Central Bank of Chile during the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet.
