OpeniBoot
OpeniBoot is an open source implementation of Apple's closed source bootloader iBoot. It allows the booting of unsigned code on supported iDevices (such as Linux kernels). It also allows to download and install the Android operating system on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. It can be controlled via OpeniBoot console (oibc) which can be connected to from a libusb enabled computer. Linux On Apple Devices
The Linux kernel can run on a variety of devices made by Apple, including devices where the unlocking of the bootloader is not possible with an official procedure, such as iPhones and iPads. iPad In June 2022, software developers Konrad Dybcio and Markuss Broks managed to run Linux kernel 5.18 on a iPad Air 2. The project made use of the Alpine Linux based Linux distribution called postmarketOS, which is primarily developed for Android devices. IBoot
iBoot is the stage 2 bootloader for all Apple products. It replaces the old bootloader, BootX. Compared with its predecessor, iBoot improves authentication performed in the boot chain. For x86 macOS, the boot process starts by running code stored in secured UEFI Boot ROM (first stage). Boot ROM has two primary responsibilities: to initialize system hardware and to select an operating system to run (the POST and UEFI component). For ARM macOS, the Boot ROM is not UEFI component. For iOS, the boot process starts by running the device's Boot ROM code. In systems with S1 processors or A9 or earlier A-series processors, the Boot ROM loads the Low-Level Bootloader (LLB), which loads iBoot.
