"Open Up" is a song recorded by British electronic duo Leftfield featuring John Lydon (of Sex Pistols and Public Image Ltd.). It was released as a single on 1 November 1993. The single reached number 13 on the UK Singles Chart, number one on the UK Dance Singles Chart and number 39 in both Australia and New Zealand. ''NME'' reported in their 18 September 1993 issue, "This is the record that people have always wanted Lydon to do." In 2014, the same publication ranked "Open Up" at number 444 on their list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time". "The Dust Brothers Remix" is an early remix by the Chemical Brothers, before they were forced to change to their current name. Leftfield
Leftfield are a British electronic music duo formed in 1989 as the duo of Neil Barnes and Paul Daley (the latter formerly of the Rivals and A Man Called Adam). The duo was very influential in the evolution of electronic music in the 1990s, with ''Mixmag'' describing them as "the single most influential production team working in British dance music". As with many of their contemporaries, such as the Chemical Brothers and Fatboy Slim, Leftfield are notable for their use of guest vocalists in their works. Among those involved were Toni Halliday on "Original", Johnny Rotten on " Open Up", Djum Djum on "Afro-Left", and Earl 16 and Cheshire Cat on "Release the Pressure". Frankie Goes to Hollywood were an English synth-pop band formed in Liverpool in 1980. The group's best-known line-up comprised Holly Johnson (vocals), Paul Rutherford (backing vocals), Peter Gill (drums, percussion), Mark O'Toole (bass guitar) and Brian Nash (guitar). James Hamilton (25 December 1942 – 17 June 1996) was a British DJ and dance music columnist for ''Record Mirror'', and later for ''Music Week'', where he worked until his death in 1996. He is recognised as a pioneering advocate of disco mixing in the UK and the addition of beats per minute (bpm) calculations to record reviews. Hamilton started as a DJ in his early 20s, playing rhythm & blues in a nightclubs in London. He then headed to New York to work for Seltaeb, the US company who’d acquired the merchandising rights for The Beatles, becoming a talent scout for their newly formed music division. After returning to the UK, he adopted the DJ name Doctor Soul, and also compiled an album with this title for Sue Records. "Rez" is a non-album track by British electronic music group Underworld, originally released in 1993 in the UK. It became a popular club hit and live track in Underworld's sets, despite the fact it could not be found on an album. However, it did appear on many compilations, b-sides, and even appeared on a bonus disc for ''Second Toughest in the Infants'' (1996). The first promo release of the single was pressed onto pink vinyl, and is highly collectible as it has an exclusive non-album track, "Why, Why, Why". The song's obscurity led to many bootleg pressings of the song before it was officially re-issued as part of '' 1992–2012 The Anthology''. The more common release has the single "Cowgirl" as its b-side. This version also received a limited white vinyl pressing in the US. ''Record Mirror'' was a British weekly music newspaper between 1954 and 1991 for pop fans and record collectors. Launched two years after the ''NME'', it never attained the circulation of its rival. The first UK album chart was published in ''Record Mirror'' in 1956, and during the 1980s it was the only consumer music paper to carry the official UK singles and UK albums charts used by the BBC for Radio 1 and ''Top of the Pops'', as well as the US ''Billboard'' charts. John Joseph Lydon (; born 31 January 1956), also known by his former stage name Johnny Rotten, is an English singer and songwriter. He was the lead singer of the late-1970s punk band the Sex Pistols, which lasted from 1975 until 1978, and again for various revivals during the 1990s and 2000s. He is also the lead singer of post-punk band Public Image Ltd (PiL), which he founded and fronted from 1978 until 1993, and again since 2009. Rise (Public Image Ltd Song)
"Rise" is a single released by post-punk group Public Image Ltd in 1986. It was the first single from ''Album'', their fifth studio album. The song was written by John Lydon and Bill Laswell about apartheid in South Africa, specifically about Nelson Mandela as Lydon stated in a 2013 Glastonbury interview. Lydon also referred to alleged Royal Ulster Constabulary interrogation techniques, such as electric torture, in an MTV interview in 1987. It was one of the group's biggest commercial hits, peaking at #11 on the UK Singles Chart. The song contains the phrase 'may the road rise with you', which is a direct translation of the old Irish blessing "go n-éirí an bóthar leat" (usually translated as "may the road rise up to meet you"). The phrase "anger is an energy" became the title of Lydon's 2014 autobiography.
