''Opzoek naar Yolanda'' was a Dutch dramady television show by Wim T. Schippers, consisting of six episodes aired by the VPRO from October to December 1984. The show (a parody of sitcoms and soap operas, like most of Schippers' shows) was a continuation of sorts of Schippers' ''De lachende scheerkwast'' (1981-1982) and featured some of the same characters. In turn, it was a kind of prequel to ''We zijn weer thuis'', which ran from 1989 to 1994. Story and script were written by Schippers, who directed the show with his longtime associate Ellen Jens. Schippers himself portrays Jacques Plafond. Plot Photographer Rik Rollinga ( Kenneth Herdigein), on his way to take a formal portrait of the Dutch queen (the invitation turns out to be a practical joke), catches a glimpse of a beautiful young woman, Yolanda, on the Baarn train station. VPRO
The VPRO (stylized vpro; originally an acronym for , ) is a Dutch public broadcaster, which forms a part of the Dutch public broadcasting system. Founded in 1926 as a liberal Protestant broadcasting organization, it gradually became more social liberal than Protestant in the 1950s and 1960s, and the original meaning of the acronym was eventually dropped. In 1967, VPRO was the first broadcaster in the Netherlands to show a nude woman – Phil Bloom – on national television. The VPRO is known for sometimes producing avant-garde programs, documentaries and films. The target audience of the VPRO consists mainly of highly educated and creative people (e.g. artists, designers, scientists). Nederland 24 was the collective name for a number of specialty television channels from the Dutch public broadcasting system. It also broadcasts a sample channel of the same name featuring a mix of programming from the other thematic channels. A couple of these specialty channel are still available, but are now fully under the wings of the NPO. Originally it consisted of seventeen channels which were available through cable and online (cf. Overview The ''Nederland 24'' channels were an expansion of the Dutch public broadcasting system, in which public broadcasting associations provide general programming. Based on the number of active members, broadcasting associations receive airtime on three national public television stations (NPO 1, NPO 2 and NPO 3). Sdu (publishing Company)
Sdu is a Dutch publishing company, whose name derives from the company's origin as the ''Staatsdrukkerij en Uitgeverij'', typically abbreviated as ''Staatsdrukkerij''; the company started as the official publisher ("State Printing House") of Dutch governmental publications and of documents such as passports and voter registration cards. Along with the Staatscourant, it was the first Dutch company to receive the appellation "royal", awarded in 1806 by Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte. History Sdu became independent of the state in 1998, although the state maintained ownership of the shares. The company was reorganized, shifting its focus towards publishing rather than printing. Going To The Dogs
''Going to the Dogs'' is a 1986 play by Dutch writer, artist, and television director Wim T. Schippers. It premiered on 19 September to a sell-out audience in the Stadsschouwburg in Amsterdam, with six German Shepherds, allegedly trained as actors by the Amsterdam police, as the performers. The play provoked national and international attention, and even drew protest from an animal rights group. Background Schippers, who had gained a reputation as an artist creating unusual works of visual art in the 1960s (for instance, his '' Pindakaasvloer'' consisted of a floor covered in peanut butter), conceived of the idea for the play in the early 1970s, and explained that the six dogs had been acquired as puppies and had received acting lessons from the Amsterdam police. Herr Seele
Herr Seele, the pseudonym of Peter Van Heirseele (Torhout, Belgium, 13 April 1959), is a Flemish cartoonist, author, actor, piano tuner and piano collector. He is mainly known for the absurd humor comic strip ''Cowboy Henk'', for which his colleague Kamagurka writes the scripts, while he makes the drawings. The comic has been published in ''HUMO'' since 1981 with only a minor interruption from October 2011 until the spring of 2013. During this period Seele made another gag-a-day comic series ''Dikke Billie Walter''. Since the spring of 2013 ''Cowboy Henk'' appears in the magazine again. Dolf Brouwers
Dolf Brouwers (31 August 1912 – 23 September 1997) was a Dutch comedian, singer, and television actor who rose to fame late in life playing the character Sjef van Oekel in the 1970s satirical television shows aired on VPRO, written and directed by Wim T. Schippers, Ruud van Hemert, Gied Jaspars, and Wim van der Linden. Biography Born in Utrecht in 1912, Brouwers grew up in The Hague and held various jobs including hairdresser, travel guide, and vacuum cleaner salesman. He loved operetta and tried without success for a career as a singer, having only one minor hit. In 1972 he was discovered when he auditioned as an extra for the Wim T. Schippers television show '' De Fred Hachéshow'' (he was friends with the show's lead actor, Harry Touw), and quickly rose to prominence.
