One Law For Both
''One Law for Both'' is a 1917 American silent drama film directed by Ivan Abramson. Plot Elga Pulsaki (Rita Jolivet) and her brother Ossip (James W. Morrison) emigrate to the United States from Russia to escape persecution. Elga marries Norman Hutchinson (Vincent Serrano), but their marital bliss is torn asunder when Norman learns that Elga had had sex with a government official in Russia who had threatened her brother. Norman throws Elga out of the house, but Norman's sister reminds him that he did not suggest the same course of action for her when she realized her husband (Count de Fernac, played by Pedro de Cordoba) had previously fathered a child out of wedlock. Vincent Serrano
Vincent Serrano (February 17, 1866 – January 11, 1935) was an American actor in plays and silent films. Biography Serrano's best-known role was as Lieutenant Denton in the Augustus Thomas play ''Arizona'', which had its New York opening in September 1900. He acted the role in over 1,000 performances. He also appeared in 13 movies, the last of which was 1927's ''Convoy''. The ''Moving Picture World'' was an influential early trade journal for the American film industry, from 1907 to 1927. An industry powerhouse at its height, ''Moving Picture World'' frequently reiterated its independence from the film studios. In 1911, the magazine bought out ''Views and Film Index''. Its reviews illustrate the standards and tastes of film in its infancy, and shed light on story content in those early days. By 1914, it had a reported circulation of approximately 15,000. The publication was founded by James Petrie (J.P.) Chalmers, Jr. (1866–1912), who began publishing in March 1907 as ''The Moving Picture World and View Photographer''. A lost film is a feature or short film that no longer exists in any studio archive, private collection, public archive or the U.S. Library of Congress. Anders Randolf (December 18, 1870 – July 2, 1930) was a Danish American actor in American films from 1913 to 1930. Biography Anders was born in Viborg, Denmark, where he became a professional soldier in the Danish army and a world-class swordsman. He emigrated to the United States in 1893 or 1895, quickly giving in to a lifelong passion for the theater. After briefly heading his own production company, Frontier Features, Inc., Randolf settled into a career as one of Hollywood's best screen villains. Helen Louise Prettyman Arnold (August 17, 1890 – February 19, 1976) was a silent film actress who appeared in motion pictures from 1916 to 1918. Early life and career Helen Louise Prettyman was born on August 17, 1890 to Thomas Jefferson Prettyman (1856–1935) and Mary A. Graves (1858–1940). She had three siblings, Mabel (1884–1920), Lewis Alfred (1886–1961), and Thomas Jefferson Jr. (1888–1967). Helen married Richard M. Arnold Jr. on April 2, 1910 in Clark, Indiana. Arnold was a member of the cast of the 1891 production of "Nerves" at the Lyceum Theatre in New York City. The play ran from January 19, 1891 to April 1891.
