Once Upon A Time In Iraq
''Once Upon a Time in Iraq'' is a 2020 British documentary television miniseries, directed by James Bluemel and narrated by British-Iraqi Andy Serkis. Composed of five episodes, it features interviews with Iraqi citizens, as well as American military personnel and international journalists about the Iraqi conflict and its effects on the Iraqi people. Overview The series chronologically covers the 2003 invasion of Iraq by a United States-led coalition that overthrew the government of Saddam Hussein, and its subsequent occupation of Iraq (2003–2011); the first phase of the Iraqi insurgency (2003–2006); the Iraqi Civil War (2006–2008); the post-US withdrawal insurgency (2011–2013); and the War in Iraq (2013–2017), an armed conflict between the Iraqi Army and its allies against the Islamic State. An Islamic state is a State (polity), state that has a form of government based on sharia, Islamic law (sharia). Omar Mohammed ( ar, عمر بن محمد الموصلي) is a historian and citizen journalist from Mosul, Iraq, who documented life under ISIL through his blog ''Mosul Eye''. Early life and education Mohammed was born and raised in Mosul. He graduated from the University of Mosul in 2012 after defending his dissertation on the French occupation of Egypt. He taught at the same university for one year before ISIS closed it down in 2014. Ashley Gilbertson (born 22 January 1978) is an Australian photographer. He is known for his images of the Iraq War and the effects of the wars in War in Afghanistan (2001–present), Afghanistan and Iraq on returning veterans and their families. Gilbertson is a member of VII Photo Agency. Dexter Price Filkins (born May 24, 1961) is an American journalist known primarily for his coverage of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan for ''The New York Times''. Ahmed Albasheer (Arabic: أحمد البشير; born 17 October 1984) is an Iraqi comedian, journalist, and director, best known as the creator and host of the weekly political satire show ''Albasheer Show''. He was named one of the twenty most influential people in the Arab world by the Global Influence Research Centre. 2021 British Academy Television Awards
The 2021 British Academy Television Awards were held on 6 June 2021, to recognise the excellence in British television of 2020. The nominees were announced along with the nominees for the 2021 British Academy Television Craft Awards on 28 April 2021, while the shortlist for the Virgin Media Must-See-Moment were announced the day before, on 27 April 2021. The Rose d'Or ('Golden Rose') is an international awards festival in entertainment broadcasting and programming. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) first acquired the Rose d’Or in 1961, when it was created by Swiss Television in the lakeside city of Montreux. The awards stayed with the EBU for almost 40 years. The EBU re-acquired the awards in 2013 and successfully re-launched the event that year in Brussels, then relocated to Berlin from 2014 to 2018. In 2014 the event took place on 17 September in Berlin, Germany. Nathan Sassaman
Nathan Sassaman (b. 1963) is a retired United States Army officer and the author of the 2008 book ''Warrior King'' (with Joe Layden) about his experiences in the Iraq War. Raised in Portland, Oregon, Sassaman was an A student and the son of a Methodist minister who earned appointments to both West Point and the Air Force Academy, and was also recruited by Princeton. Choosing to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point, he captained and played quarterback on Army's football team in the 1984 season, in which he helped the team achieve one of its best recent records, exceeding all expectations with an 8-3-1 record.
