The Omloop van het Zuidwesten was a Belgian cycling race organized for the last time in 1982. The course was around 185 km, with Hulste as both start and finish place. The competition's roll of honor includes the successes of Roger De Vlaeminck, Walter Godefroot and Patrick Sercu. Flanders

Georges Vanconingsloo
Georges Van Coningsloo (27 October 1940 – 7 April 2002) was a Belgian racing cyclist. Career Van Coningsloo was a professional from 1963 to 1974. In 1967, he won Bordeaux–Paris, after a 370 kilometer breakaway. He rode in four Grand Tours in his career: three editions of the Tour de France, and the 1970 Vuelta a España, but failed to finish all of the races. His son Philippe was also a high level cyclist. He died, however, before turning professional, after suffering a heart attack during a race. In his honor, a race called the Memorial Philippe Van Coningsloo is held in July. His other son, Olivier, was also a professional cyclist, who rode for two seasons before ending his career. Herman Vanspringel
Herman Vanspringel (14 August 1943 – 25 August 2022), also spelled Herman Van Springel, was a Belgian road racing cyclist, from Grobbendonk, in the Flanders, Flemish Campine or Kempen region. He achieved podium finishes in all three of the grand tours with second place in the 1968 Tour de France and 1971 Giro d'Italia, and third place in the 1970 Vuelta a España. He wore the Maillot Jaune during four stages of the 1968 Tour de France and for three stages in 1973 Tour de France, 1973. Career Vanspringel was an accomplished time-trial rider, almost winning the Tour de France in 1968. He was beaten in the last stage by Dutch rider Jan Janssen (cyclist), Jan Janssen in a time-trial.
