Omega (record Label)
Omega is a Dutch record label that released records under Omega and its sub label Omega International from the 1940s though to the 1990s. The distribution was handled by Dureco. In Belgium, its releases were handled by Fonior. Some of the artists to have their work released on the label in the early 1960s include The Dutch Cocktail Trio. Dureco
Dureco is a Dutch independent record label based in the Netherlands. Over the years many artists and groups such as the Amboina Serenaders, Judy Cheeks, Jules de Corte, De Dijk, Jef Elbers, Gotcha!, Samantha Jones, Ming Luhulima, the Mena Moeria Minstrels, Liz Mitchell, Julian Sas, Luv', Roger Peterson and Rene van Helsdingen have had their work released through Dureco. Background It was founded in 1952 as the Dutch division of the Pelgrims Group. It also had divisions in Belgium and France. By the early 1970s, it was selling 36 million records a year. Through its Sofrason company in France it was selling 22 million records and through Fonior in Belgium, it was selling 8 million. By 1972, it had its own 24-track studio. Its pressing plant had nine album pressing machines with a capacity to press 100,000 albums per week. Coy Pereira
Coy Pereira (1919-2005) was a Netherlands-based guitarist and steel guitarist originally from Batavia in the Dutch East Indies. He was a member of the Kilima Hawaiians and had recorded with the Mena Moeria Minstrels as well as having work released under his own name. He is said to be in the same class of fellow steel guitarists, George de Fretes and Rudi Wairata. Biography Pereira was born on October 22, 1919, in Batavia. He started playing at age 13. He and his wife Hetty had three children. In 1960, he moved to the Netherlands. In later years he and his wife moved to a retirement village in a Rotterdam suburb. He died in hospital on April 12, 2005, aged 86. His daughter Rosy born 1951 is a recording artist, having recorded in the 1970s and 1980s. Ming Luhulima
Ming Luhulima, also known as Lou Lima was a Netherlands-based recording artist originally from the Maluku Islands, which were part of the Dutch East Indies. He was closely associated with Rudi Wairata during his career. Luhulima was a member of the Amboina Serenaders and the Mena Moeria Minstrels, and also led the Krontjong Ensemble Pantja Warna. Background Luhulima, a Moluccan musician became a well-known artist in the Netherlands, and like George de Fretes had gained fame there. In addition to being a singer, he also played guitar and ukulele. Along with George de Fretes, he was responsible for the promotion of the Portuguese style or genre of music in the Netherlands called Kroncong. Ben Cramer (born Bernardus Kramer; 17 February 1947) is a Dutch singer who represented the Netherlands in the 1973 Eurovision Song Contest. Music career Early years Cramer was born in Amsterdam. Fud Candrix
Alfons "Fud" Candrix (July 17, 1908, Tongeren – April 11, 1974, Brussels) was a Belgian jazz saxophonist and violinist. Candrix got his start in his brother Jeff Candrix's orchestra, which toured western Europe and Morocco. He founded his own group, the Carolina Stomp Chasers, in 1929, which played in France and Italy, and soon after worked with Bernard Etté, Robert De Kers, Jean Omer, and Chas Remue. Rudi Wairata aka Rudy Wairata(1929/1930 –1981) was an influential Indonesian musician who had fronted the Mena Moeria Minstrels and the Amboina Serenaders. Wairata's style of playing was influenced by Sol Hoʻopiʻi and Andy Iona. Along with George de Fretes he was a prominent musician in the genre of Hawaiian steel guitar music.
