Oliver And Company
''Oliver & Company'' is a 1988 American animated musical adventure film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and released on November 18, 1988, by Walt Disney Pictures. The 27th Disney animated feature film, it is loosely based on the Charles Dickens novel ''Oliver Twist''. In the film, Oliver is a homeless kitten who joins a gang of dogs to survive in the streets. Among other changes, the setting of the film was relocated from 19th century London to 1980s New York City, Fagin's gang is made up of dogs (one of which is Dodger), and Sykes is a loan shark. Following the release of '' The Black Cauldron'' (1985), Michael Eisner and Jeffrey Katzenberg held a pitch meeting with the animation staff, in which story artist Pete Young pitched the idea to adapt ''Oliver Twist'' with dogs. George Scribner
George Scribner (born September 28, 1952) is an artist, director and animator that is best known for having directed the 1988 animated Walt Disney Animation Studios film ''Oliver & Company''. Biography Scribner was born and raised in the Republic of Panama, where he attended grade schools and drew his way through most of his classes. After attending The Bolles School in Florida, he majored in film at Emerson College in Boston and moved to Los Angeles to pursue animation and joined Hanna-Barbera Productions. He became an animator at Walt Disney Feature Animation in the mid 1980s and it is in 1988 that he directed ''Oliver & Company''. He also directed the featurette ''The Prince and the Pauper'', starring Mickey Mouse in a duo role playing both himself and the Prince. After working on numerous other features, he was originally going to co-direct ''The Lion King''. Richard Mulligan (November 13, 1932 – September 26, 2000) was an American character actor known for his roles in the sitcoms ''Soap'' (1977–1981) and ''Empty Nest'' (1988–1995),. Mulligan was the winner of two Emmy Awards (1980 and 1989) and one Golden Globe Award (1989). Mulligan was the younger brother of film director Robert Mulligan. Oliver Twist (character)
Oliver Twist is the title character and protagonist of the 1838 novel ''Oliver Twist'' by Charles Dickens. He was the first child protagonist in an English novel.The full title was "Oliver Twist, or The Parish Boy's Progress." Background Based in the 1820s, the orphan, young Oliver is born in a parish workhouse in an unnamed town. His unmarried mother dies during labour. Old Sally, who was present at the birth, takes from the dying woman a locket and ring. Mr Bumble, the Beadle, names the boy Oliver Twist.
