Olexandr Moiseenko
Alexander Moiseenko ( uk, Олександр Моісеєнко, ; born 17 May 1980) is a Ukrainian chess grandmaster and the 2013 European champion. He was a member of the gold medal-winning Ukrainian team at the Chess Olympiads of 2004 and 2010. Biography Born in Severomorsk to a Ukrainian family, Moiseenko moved with his family to Kharkiv, Ukraine when he was nine. He won the World Championship for boys Under-16 in Spain in 1996, and was awarded the International Master title. He improved his standard steadily over the next several years. He placed 2nd at the Ukrainian Junior Championship, Kharkiv 1998, with 7/11. Severomorsk
Severomorsk (russian: Северомо́рск), known as Vayenga () until April 18, 1951, is a closed town in Murmansk Oblast, Russia. Severomorsk is the main administrative base of the Russian Northern Fleet. The town is located on the coast of the Barents Sea along the Kola Bay northeast of Murmansk, the administrative centre of the oblast, to which it is connected by railway and a motorway. History Early settlement The first settlement on the site of the modern city arose between 1896 and 1897. Dimitri Tyomkin (born March 25, 1977) is a Canadian chess grandmaster (2001). In 1997 he won the Israeli Junior Championship and the European Junior Chess Championship in Tallinn. In 2004 he tied for 1st–2nd with Alexander Moiseenko in the Canadian Open Chess Championship in Kapuskasing and tied for 3rd–6th with Igor Zugic, Mark Bluvshtein and Tomas Krnan in the Canadian Chess Championship in Toronto. Kapuskasing
Kapuskasing is a town on the Kapuskasing River in the Cochrane District of Northern Ontario, Canada, approximately east of Hearst. The town was known as MacPherson until 1917, when the name was changed so as not to conflict with another railway stop in Manitoba. Etymology The town of Kapuskasing ''(pronounced ka-pus-KAY-sing'') gets its name from the Kapuskasing River, which was named long before the existence of the town. ''Kapuskasing'' is a word of Cree origin meaning "bend in the river". The Canadian Open Chess Championship is Canada's Open chess championship, first held in 1956, and held annually since 1973, usually in mid-summer. It is organized by the Chess Federation of Canada. The event celebrated its 50th rendition in 2013. History It was organized every two years from 1956 until 1970. The tournament rotates around the country, and has been held in eight of Canada's ten provinces during its 63-year history, missing only Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. Chess'n Math Association
The Chess'n Math Association (or Chess and Math Association) is a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing chess into Canadian schools. Founded in 1985 by Larry Bevand, who still serves as its executive director, it bills itself as "Canada's National Scholastic Chess Organization", although it is not affiliated with the Chess Federation of Canada, Canada's official FIDE-recognized chess organization. Chess'n Math runs hundreds of tournaments for kids K-12 across Canada, including an annual Canadian Chess Challenge. These tournaments are rated according to its own rating system. Guelph ( ; 2021 Canadian Census population 143,740) is a city in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. Vladimir Akopian (russian: Владимир Акопян, hy, Վլադիմիր Հակոբյան; born December 7, 1971) is an Armenian-Americans, American chess Grandmaster (chess), Grandmaster. Career Akopian was born in Baku, Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic, Soviet Union. He won the World Youth Chess Championship, World Under-16 Championship in 1986 at the age of 14 and the World Youth Chess Championship, World Under-18 Championship at 16. Victor (Viorel) Bologan (born 14 December 1971) is a Moldovan chess player and author. He was awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE in 1991. Career Bologan won the first two editions of the Poikovsky Karpov International Tournament, in 2000 and 2001. He tied for first in the same tournament in 2005 and 2015. In 2003 he won the Aeroflot Open and the Dortmund Sparkassen Chess Meeting. He won the 2005 Canadian Open Chess Championship.
