Old Wives Tales (extended Play)
''Old Wives Tales'' is an EP by Joy Electric Joy Electric is the brand label for a series of electropop/synthpop productions by Ronnie Martin. Martin began producing music under the Joy Electric name in 1994, after the demise of Dance House Children, a band Ronnie was in with his brother .... Like most of Joy Electric's EPs, Old Wives Tales sports a much more simplistic and minimal style then on the majority of the full-length discs. This is mainly due to Martin having less spare time because of touring and being generally fatigued from the intense recording process as well as an intentional break from the norm into a lighter, more spontaneous style of recording. Along with two remixes of songs from "We Are the Music Makers", this EP contains another version of "Candy Cane Carriage", originally found on "Melody", Joy Electric's first album. Track listing #"The Cobbler" – 3:11 #"And It Feels Like Old Times" – 3:52 #"Burgundy Years (Remix)" – 4:19 #"Old Wives Tale ...

Synthpop
Synth-pop (short for synthesizer pop; also called techno-pop; ) is a subgenre of new wave music that first became prominent in the late 1970s and features the synthesizer as the dominant musical instrument. It was prefigured in the 1960s and early 1970s by the use of synthesizers in progressive rock, electronic, art rock, disco, and particularly the Krautrock of bands like Kraftwerk. It arose as a distinct genre in Japan and the United Kingdom in the post-punk era as part of the new wave movement of the late 1970s to the mid-1980s. Electronic musical synthesizers that could be used practically in a recording studio became available in the mid-1960s, and the mid-1970s saw the rise of electronic art musicians. After the breakthrough of Gary Numan in the UK Singles Chart in 1979, large numbers of artists began to enjoy success with a synthesizer-based sound in the early 1980s. In Japan, Yellow Magic Orchestra introduced the TR-808 rhythm machine to popular music, and the ...

The genre was developed in the 1980s and saw a revival of popularity and influence in the late 2000s. History Early 1980s During the early 1980s, British artists such as Gary Numan, the Human League, Soft Cell, John Foxx and Visage helped pioneer a new synth-pop style that drew more heavily from electronic music and emphasized primary usage of synthesizers. 21st century Britney Spears' influential fifth studio album '' Blackout'' (2007) incorporated elements of the genre, catapulting electropop to mainstream significance. The media in 2009 ran articles proclaiming a new era of different electropop stars, and indeed the times saw a rise in popularity of several electropop artists. In the Sound of 2009 poll of 130 music experts conducted for the BBC, ten of the top fifteen artist ...

''Robot Rock'' is the third full-length album by Joy Electric, released in 1997. It is the group's best-selling album. Production The album was recorded solely on analog synthesizers. Critical reception The album was reviewed favorably by critics. Heather Phares, writing for AllMusic, designated the album as an "Album Pick" from the group's discography, and praised its simplicity and vocalist Ronnie Martin's vocal performance. ''Trouser Press'' wrote that "had the album been released in 1981, songs like 'Sugar Rush' and 'Monosynth' would likely now be beloved new wave classics. ''Robot Rock'' is among the best of the neo-new wave albums, and deserves a spot on the shelf next to albums like the Human League’s ''Dare'', Depeche Mode’s ''Speak and Spell'' and Soft Cell’s ''Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret''. ''CMJ New Music Monthly'' called the album "synth-pop reduced to its aryNuman-ian essence." Track listing (all songs written by Ronnie Martin) #"Sugar Rush" – 2:23 #"Mono ...

Allmusic
AllMusic (previously known as All Music Guide and AMG) is an American online music database. It catalogs more than three million album entries and 30 million tracks, as well as information on musicians and bands. Initiated in 1991, the database was first made available on the Internet in 1994. AllMusic is owned by RhythmOne. History AllMusic was launched as ''All Music Guide'' by Michael Erlewine, a "compulsive archivist, noted astrologer, Buddhist scholar and musician". He became interested in using computers for his astrological work in the mid-1970s and founded a software company, Matrix, in 1977. In the early 1990s, as CDs replaced LPs as the dominant format for recorded music, Erlewine purchased what he thought was a CD of early recordings by Little Richard. After buying it he discovered it was a "flaccid latter-day rehash". Frustrated with the labeling, he researched using metadata to create a music guide. In 1990, in Big Rapids, Michigan, he founded ''All Music Guide' ...

Joy Electric EPs
The word joy refers to the emotion evoked by well-being, success, or good fortune, and is typically associated with feelings of intense, long lasting happiness. Dictionary definitions Dictionary definitions of joy typically include a sense of it being a reaction to an external happening, e.g. a physical sensation experienced, or receiving good news. Distinction vs similar states saw a clear distinction between joy, pleasure, and happiness: "I sometimes wonder whether all pleasures are not substitutes for Joy", and "I call it Joy, which is here a technical term and must be sharply distinguished both from Happiness and Pleasure. Joy (in my sense) has indeed one characteristic, and one only, in common with them; the fact that anyone who has experienced it will want it again... I doubt whether anyone who has tasted it would ever, if both were in his power, exchange it for all the pleasures in the world. But then Joy is never in our power and Pleasure often is." Michela Summa say ...
