Old London Road
Old London Road is a cricket ground in Copdock, Suffolk. The first recorded match on the ground was in 1847, when the Gentlemen of Suffolk played the Gentlemen of Norfolk. The ground hosted its first Minor Counties Championship match in 1992 when Suffolk played Norfolk. From 1992 to 2006, the ground hosted 5 Minor Counties Championship matches and 8 MCCA Knockout Trophy matches, the last of which saw Suffolk play Norfolk. The ground has also hosted a single List-A match between Suffolk and Denmark in the 2002 Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy which was played in 2001. In local domestic cricket, the ground is the home of Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club that plays in the East Anglian Premier Cricket League as of 2012. Copdock is a village and former civil parish in county of Suffolk, south-eastern England. In 1961 the civil parish had a population of 399. Location Copdock is south-west of Ipswich. It is located on the former A12 road (now designated as the C475), which was blocked off at Whights Corner after the construction of the Copdock Interchange and the A14 road Ipswich bypass. Governance The local authority for the area is Babergh District Council. On 1 April 1994 the parish was merged with Washbrook to form the Copdock and Washbrook. Description It has a local primary school called Copdock Primary School, and the local church is called St. Peter's Copdock and is a Church of England. The local village hall, located on the old A12, was built in 1991, and is situated within the grounds of the local playing fields. Cricket
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. Minor Counties Championship
The NCCA 3 Day Championship (previously the Minor Counties Cricket Championship) is a season-long competition in England and Wales that is contested by the members of the National Counties Cricket Association (NCCA), the so-called national counties that do not have first-class status. History The competition began in 1895, with the Worcestershire honorary secretary Paul Foley being influential in its creation. Apart from the two World War periods, it has been contested annually ever since. From 2014 to 2019 the tournament was known as the Unicorns Championship. MCCA Knockout Trophy
The National Counties Cricket Association Knockout Cup was started in 1983 as a knockout one-day competition for the National Counties in English cricket. At first it was known as the ''English Industrial Estates Cup'', before being called the ''Minor Counties Knock Out Competition'' from 1986 to 1987, the ''Holt Cup'' from 1988 to 1992, the ''MCC Trophy'' from 1993 to 1998, the ''ECB 38-County Cup'' from 1999 to 2002, the ''MCCA Knockout Trophy'' from 2003 to 2005. It has been called the ''MCCA Trophy'' since 2006 until its current rebranding in 2020. From 1998 to 2002, the competition was contested by 38 teams and included a group stage. The 2002 Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy was an English limited overs county cricket tournament which was held between 29 August 2001 and 31 August 2002. It was the second Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy, following its change of name from the NatWest Trophy. The tournament was won by Yorkshire who defeated Somerset by 6 wickets in the final at Lord's.
