October (Shostakovich)
''October'', Op. 131, is a symphonic poem composed by Dmitri Shostakovich to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the October Revolution in 1967. He was spurred to compose the work after reencountering his score for the Vasilyev brothers' 1937 film , reusing its "Partisan Song" in ''October''. Although Shostakovich completed the work quickly, the process of writing it fatigued him physically because of his deteriorating motor functions. The world premiere of ''October'' was played on September 16, 1967, by the USSR State Symphony Orchestra conducted by Maxim Shostakovich, the composer's son. He had been vying to conduct the world premiere of the Violin Concerto No. 2, but was offered ''October'' instead. The American premiere took place on October 10, 1988, at Avery Fisher Hall, played by the New York Philharmonic conducted by Andrew Davis. Dmitri Dmitriyevich Shostakovich, , group=n (9 August 1975) was a Soviet-era Russian composer and pianist who became internationally known after the premiere of his Symphony No. 1 (Shostakovich), First Symphony in 1926 and was regarded throughout his life as a major composer. Shostakovich achieved early fame in the Soviet Union, but had a complex relationship with its government. Vano Muradeli ( ka, ვანო მურადელი; russian: Вано Ильич Мурадели; in Gori – 14 August 1970, in Tomsk), was a Soviet Georgian composer. He was born in Gori, Georgia (then part of Imperial Russia) to Georgian -Armenian parents.Laurel E. Fay, ''Shostakovich and His World'' (Princeton University Press, 2004), 44. He graduated from Tbilisi State Conservatory in 1931; then studied with Nikolai Myaskovsky at the Moscow Conservatory. From 1934 to 1938, he worked there. Oktyabr', Jalal-Abad
Oktyabr' ( ky, Октябрь) is a big village in Jalal-Abad Region of Kyrgyzstan. It is part of the Suzak District. Its population was 10,665 in 2021. History The village was established in summer 1905. In spring 1906 several tens of migrant families from Ukraine, Siberia and Don settled down in the area. As an aryk for drinking and irrigation was constructed from Kök-Janggak, a new village was originally linked with and named after this settlement. On 26 September 1910 the village that grew up to 149 households was renamed to Ivanovka for one of the first migrants. In autumn 2010 the land surveyors documented a settlement with irrigated land and pastures including four streets, shop, school and church. In 1923 three new streets were documented. In February 1923 the settlement was renamed to Octyabr' after the October Revolution. At that time it was populated mostly by Russians and Ukrainians. ''Oktyabr'' ( rus, Октябрь, p=ɐkˈtʲabrʲ, a=Ru-октябрь.ogg, "October'") was a monthly Russian literary magazine based in Moscow. It was in circulation between 1924 and 2019. In addition to ''Novy Mir'' and ''Znamya'' the monthly was a leading and deep-rooted literary magazine in Russia. History ''Oktyabr'' was launched in 1924 by a group with the same name, "Oktyabr", which was founded by the poet Alexander Bezymensky and the novelist Yury Libedinsky in 1922. It was an official organ of the Soviet Union and had a conservative political stance. Particularly during the post-World War II period it became one of the most pro-government publications and was instrumental in shaping the image of Soviet poetry. The editorial board of the magazine in the Soviet era included those figures recognized by the state. The first chief editor was Labory Kalmanson who was also known as G. Lelevich.
