Oklahoma City Warriors (ice Hockey)
The Oklahoma Warriors were a soccer club based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma that competed in the SISL and USISL. Founded in 1986 by head coach and owner Chico Villar, the Warriors played their home games at the Indoor Soccer Arena, owned by Villar. In February 1993, the Warriors merged with the Oklahoma City Spirit of the Lone Star Soccer Alliance to become the Oklahoma City Slickers#Oklahoma City Slickers (1993-1996), Oklahoma City Slickers for the 1993 United States Interregional Soccer League, 1993 outdoor season. Chico Villar
Nestor “Chico” Villar (born 13 March 1947) is a retired Peruvian-American soccer player and coach. He was a two-time Coach of the Year in the Southwest Indoor Soccer League. Coaching career Villar played professionally in Peru for seven years before moving to the United States in order to earn a master's degree in education at Oklahoma City University in 1971. He remained in the United States, coaching and playing at the amateur level. In 1983, he became an assistant coach with the Oklahoma City Slickers of the American Soccer League. Lone Star Soccer Alliance was a soccer league that existed from 1987 to 1992. While most of the teams came from Texas, some also came from Oklahoma and Kansas. The Oklahoma City Slickers was the name given to two different American soccer clubs based in Oklahoma City. The first team competed in the second American Soccer League in 1982 and 1983, and as the Oklahoma City Stampede in the United Soccer League in 1984 and 1985. The second Oklahoma City Slickers competed in the USISL from 1993 to 1996. Oklahoma City Slickers (1982–85) In 1982, the first Oklahoma City Slickers joined the de facto second division American Soccer League. 1993 United States Interregional Soccer League
The 1993 United States Interregional Soccer League was an American outdoor soccer season run by the United States Interregional Soccer League. Southern Challenge Cup In 1993, the league introduced the Southern Challenge Cup, a short season for teams which the league was considering for membership. The cup would allow these provisional teams to test their organization before beginning a season long competitive schedule. During the cup, the four provisional teams also played games against other teams in the league. These games counted both in the USISL and Southern Challenge Cup standings. The cup was capped by a final between the two top teams in which the Riverboat Gamblers defeated the Grasshoppers.
