Oklahoma's 5th Congressional District
Oklahoma's 5th congressional district is a congressional district in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. It borders all of the other congressional districts in the state except the 1st district. It is densely populated and covers almost all of Oklahoma County (except a small sliver located in the 4th district) and all of Pottawatomie and Seminole counties. Although it leans Republican, with a Cook PVI rating of R+7, it is still considered the least Republican district in the state. Principal cities in the district include Oklahoma City (the state capital), Edmond, Shawnee, and Seminole. The district is currently represented by Republican Stephanie Bice. Oklahoma State Highway 5
State Highway 5 (SH-5 or OK-5) is the name assigned to two distinct state highways in the U.S state of Oklahoma. One runs for through extreme southwestern Oklahoma, passing through Harmon and Jackson Counties. The other is long and runs through southwest Oklahoma, connecting US-283 south of Altus to US-70 at Waurika. Edmond is a city in Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, United States, and a part of the Oklahoma City metropolitan area in the central part of the state. The population was 94,428 according to the 2020 United States Census, making it the fifth largest city in Oklahoma. The city borders the northern boundary of Oklahoma City. The 2012 United States presidential election was the 57th quadrennial presidential election, held on Tuesday, November 6, 2012. Incumbent Democratic President Barack Obama and his running mate, incumbent Vice President Joe Biden, were re-elected to a second term. John McCain
John Sidney McCain III (August 29, 1936 – August 25, 2018) was an American politician and United States Navy officer who served as a United States senator from Arizona from 1987 until his death in 2018. He previously served two terms in the United States House of Representatives and was the Republican nominee for president of the United States in the 2008 election, which he lost to Barack Obama. The 2008 United States presidential election was the 56th quadrennial presidential election, held on Tuesday, November 4, 2008. The Democratic ticket of Barack Obama, the junior senator from Illinois, and Joe Biden, the senior senator from Delaware, defeated the Republican ticket of John McCain, the senior senator from Arizona, and Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska. The 2004 United States presidential election was the 55th quadrennial presidential election, held on Tuesday, November 2, 2004. The Republican ticket of incumbent President George W. John Jarman
John Henry Jarman II (July 17, 1915 – January 15, 1982) was a member of the US House of Representatives from Oklahoma for 26 years, from 1951 to 1977. Early life and career Jarman was born in Sallisaw, Oklahoma, on July 17, 1915, and graduated from Yale University in 1937 and from Harvard Law School in 1941. He was admitted to the bar in 1941 and began his law practice in Oklahoma City. Jarman enlisted in the US Army in January 1942, about a month after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Kendra Horn
Kendra Suzanne Horn (born June 9, 1976) is an American lawyer and politician who served as the U.S. representative for Oklahoma's 5th congressional district from 2019 to 2021. A member of the Democratic Party, her district included almost all of Oklahoma City. Horn defeated Republican incumbent Steve Russell in the 2018 election, in what many political analysts considered an upset victory. She was the first Democrat to represent the state's 5th congressional district in 44 years and the first Oklahoma Democrat elected to Congress in eight years.
