Delhi Legislative Assembly
The Delhi Legislative Assembly, also known as the Delhi Vidhan Sabha, is a unicameral legislature of the union territory of Delhi in India. Delhi Legislative Assembly is the legislative arm of the Government of Delhi. At present, it consists of 70 members, directly elected from 70 constituencies. The tenure of the Legislative Assembly is five years unless dissolved sooner. The seat of assembly is the Old Secretariat building, which is also the seat of the Government of Delhi. History The Delhi Legislative Assembly was first constituted on 7 March 1952 under the Government of Part C States Act, 1951; it was inaugurated by Home Minister K. N. Katju. The Assembly had 48 members, and a Council of Ministers in an advisory role to the Chief Commissioner of Delhi, though it also had powers to make laws. Okhla
Okhla is a suburban village located near Okhla barrage in the South East Delhi district of Delhi near the border between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. Its nearest industrial area called commonly as Okhla Industrial Area (OIA) or Okhla Industrial Estate, an industrial suburb in South Delhi which is mainly divided into three Phases. It stands for Old Kanal Housing and Land Authority (Kanal was used instead of canal since "ch" in the abbreviated form would have been pronounced differently). 2015 Delhi Legislative Assembly Election
The Delhi Legislative Assembly election was held on 7 February 2015 to elect 70 members of the Sixth Legislative Assembly of Delhi. The results were announced on 10 February 2015. The Aam Aadmi Party secured an absolute majority in the assembly, winning 67 of the 70 seats. Background In the 2013 Delhi state elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (along with its pre-poll ally Shiromani Akali Dal) emerged as the single-largest party, winning 32 out of the 70 seats. However, they fell short of an outright majority and therefore were unable to form the government. This led the then Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Najeeb Jung to invite the Aam Aadmi Party, the second-largest party after the BJP, to form the government. 2013 Delhi Legislative Assembly Election
The Delhi Legislative Assembly election was held on 4 December 2013, with the result announced on 8 December resulting in formation of the Fifth Legislative Assembly of Delhi. The Bharatiya Janata Party won a plurality, closely followed by Aam Aadmi Party, in its first election; this resulted in a hung assembly. Asif Muhammad Khan
Asif Muhammad Khan (born 8 February 1961) is an Indian politician and was member of the Fourth and Fifth Legislative Assemblies of Delhi, India. He represented the Okhla constituency and is a member of the Indian National Congress. Career Khan contested and won his first election in 1997 from the Okhla ward of Municipal Corporation of Delhi as an independent candidate. He won the election into the Municipal Council for a second term and remained a councillor till 2007. Khan then contested the 2008 Delhi Legislative Assembly Election from a Rashtriya Janta Dal ticket from Okhla but lost to Parvez Hashmi by only 541 votes. After Hashmi was nominated to the Rajya Sabha, Khan contested the 2009 by-election and became a member of the assembly. He later switched to the Indian National Congress in 2013. Amanatullah Khan is an Indian politician and is member of the Delhi Legislative Assembly. He is a member of the Aam Aadmi Party and represents Okhla (Assembly constituency) of Delhi in the Sixth Legislative Assembly of Delhi. Khan is the elected chairman of the Delhi Waqf Board since November 2020. Early life Amanatullah Khan was born in Agwanpur village, Meerut district to Waliullah Khan.
