Oecanthus Pellucens
''Oecanthus pellucens'', common name Italian tree cricket, is a species of tree crickets belonging to the family Gryllidae, subfamily Oecanthinae. Subspecies Subspecies include: * ''Oecanthus pellucens calinensis'' Jannone, 1936 * ''Oecanthus pellucens pellucens'' (Scopoli, 1763) Distribution This species is present in most of Europe, especially in the countries around the Mediterranean with a focus on Southern Europe. The northern boundary runs through northern France, Belgium, southern Germany, the Czech Republic and southern Poland. The first, apparently viable, British colony was discovered near Dungeness in Kent in 2015. In southern Europe there is also the closely related and very similar species ''Oecanthus dulcisonans''. It is also present in the eastern Palearctic realm, in the Near East, and in North Africa. Habitat The typical habitat of ''Oecanthus pellucens'' are sunny meadows with high vegetation and dry warm and nutrient-poor areas such as grasslands, sand du ...

Oecanthus Fultoni
''Oecanthus fultoni'', also known as the snowy tree cricket, or thermometer cricket, is a species of tree cricket from North America. It feeds on leaves but also damages fruit. The chirp of this species is often dubbed onto sound tracks of films and television shows to depict a quiet summer's night. The rate of chirp varies depending on the heat of the environment, allowing a listener to estimate the temperature. Etymology ''Oecanthus fultonis common name of the thermometer cricket is derived from a relationship between the rate of its chirps and the temperature. An estimate of the temperature in Fahrenheit can be made by adding 40 to the number of chirps made in 15 seconds. Before 1960, the name '' Oecanthus niveus'' was wrongly applied to this species. ''Oecanthus fultoni'' was named in honor of Bentley Ball Fulton (1880–1960), an American entomologist who laid the principal groundwork on North American cricket classification. Description The species is long and is li ...

Oecanthus Forbesi
''Oecanthus forbesi'', the Forbes' tree cricket, is a species of tree cricket in the family Gryllidae. It is found in North America. Description This species has a yellowish head with black markings on the first two antennal segments. ''O. forbesi'' is very similar to '' O. nigricornis''. The two species can be reliably separated only by the pulses per second (p/sec) of the male's song. The male sings by stridulation Stridulation is the act of producing sound by rubbing together certain body parts. This behavior is mostly associated with insects, but other animals are known to do this as well, such as a number of species of fish, snakes and spiders. The mech ..., and the p/sec increases with temperature. The song of the male below was measured at 55-56 p/sec in temperature of about 15 degrees Celsius (°C). Oecanthus Dulcisonans
''Oecanthus dulcisonans'' is a species of cricket sparsely but widely distributed in the Mediterranean Basin and in the Middle East. Distribution and habitat The species can be found in several Thyrrhenian coastal regions of Italy, as well as in Sardinia and Sicily. ''O. dulcisonans'' was originally reported from Saudi Arabia and is present also in the Canary Islands The Canary Islands (; es, Canarias, ), also known informally as the Canaries, are a Spanish autonomous community and archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean, in Macaronesia. At their closest point to the African mainland, they are west of Morocc .... In the Mediterranean area, its range overlaps that of its congener ''O. pellucens''. According to some studies, ''O. dulcisonans'' sings preferentially from trees while ''O. pellucens'' seems to prefer high grass such as the vegetation growing along the small streams. This thermophilic and heliophilic species is not particularly demanding, and can be found both in ...
