Odin's Raven Magic
''Odin's Raven Magic'' is a 2002 orchestral setting to the Icelandic poem Hrafnagaldr Óðins. The composition was a collaboration by Sigur Rós, Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson, Steindór Andersen, Páll Guðmundsson and Maria Huld Markan Sigfúsdóttir. It was premiered at the Barbican Centre in London on 21 April 2002 and then performed at the Reykjavík Arts Festival on 24 May 2002. Video of the production can be viewed in the documentary ''Screaming Masterpiece'' or ''Gargandi snilld'', by Ari Alexander Ergis Magnússon. In October 2020, the band announced that a recording of ''Odin's Raven Magic'' would be released on December 4, 2020. Sigur Rós () is an Icelandic post-rock band from Reykjavík, active since 1994. The band comprises singer and guitarist Jón Þór "Jónsi" Birgisson, bassist Georg Hólm, and keyboardist Kjartan Sveinsson. Known for their ethereal sound, frontman Jónsi's falsetto vocals, and their use of bowed guitar, Sigur Rós incorporate classical and minimal aesthetic elements. Jónsi's vocals are sung in Icelandic and non-linguistic vocalisations the band have termed ''Vonlenska''. They have released seven studio albums and five EPs since their formation. Hrafnagaldr Óðins
''Hrafnagaldr Óðins'' (" Odin's raven-galdr") or ''Forspjallsljóð'' ("prelude poem") is an Icelandic poem in the style of the ''Poetic Edda''. It is preserved only in late paper manuscripts. In his influential 1867 edition of the ''Poetic Edda'', Sophus Bugge reasoned that the poem was a 17th-century work, composed as an introduction to ''Baldrs draumar''. Since then it has not been included in editions of the ''Poetic Edda'' and not been extensively studied. But prior to Bugge's work the poem was considered a part of the ''Poetic Edda'' and included, for example, in the English translations of A. S. Cottle (1797) and Benjamin Thorpe (1866) as well as Karl Simrock's influential German translation (1851). In 1852, William and Mary Howitt characterized it as "amongst the most deeply poetical and singular hymns of the Edda". MusicBrainz is a MetaBrainz project that aims to create a collaborative music database that is similar to the freedb project. MusicBrainz was founded in response to the restrictions placed on the Compact Disc Database (CDDB), a database for software applications to look up audio CD information on the Internet. Reykjavík Arts Festival
The Reykjavík Arts Festival is an art festival that takes place in Reykjavík every other year. It was founded in 1970 and was biennial from the beginning, but in the years 2005-2016 it was held annually. Since 2016, the festival has again become a biennial event. Amiina (formerly Amína, stylized in lowercase) is an Icelandic band composed of members Maria Huld Markan Sigfúsdóttir, and Sólrún Sumarliðadóttir, Magnús Trygvason Eliassen and Guðmundur Vignir Karlsson. In the past they have frequently performed live and in the studio with Sigur Rós. Their music is made with a great number of instruments. It contains elements of minimalistic style, contemporary classical, ambient, and electronic loops. Páll Guðmundsson
Páll Guðmundsson (; born 1959 in Húsafell in the west of Iceland, where he still lives) is a sculptor and artist. He has done part of his studies at the University of Fine Arts in Cologne, Germany. Mostly, he sculptures faces of people out of the rock he finds around Húsafell. He has for example sculptured the faces of Johann Sebastian Bach, Björk and the Icelandic writer Thor Vilhjálmsson. Páll is also working as a musician with a unique idiophone, a large xylophone-like instrument made of stones called the ''Steinharpa''. He crafted the instrument himself using stones found around his home. Steindór Andersen (born 1954) is an Icelandic musician. Steindór is noted for his Rímur chanting and is most widely known for his collaborations with the band Sigur Rós. Other collaborations include with Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson and rapper Erpur Eyvindarson. ''Kveikur'' (pronounced , ''fuse'' or ''candlewick'') is the seventh studio album from Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós. It was released 12 June 2013 in Japan, on 17 June internationally, and on 18 June in the United States through XL Recordings. It is the first album to be fully released through XL after the band departed EMI and Parlophone during the label's acquisition by Universal Music Group in 2012. It is the only album since their debut, ''Von'', not to feature Kjartan Sveinsson, following his departure in 2012 (instead featured as the album's co-producer), and the last to feature drummer Orri Páll Dýrason before his departure in 2018.
