Obninsk State Technical University For Nuclear Power Engineering
Obninsk Institute for Nuclear Power Engineering (russian: Обнинский институт атомной энергетики, traditionally abbreviated ) is an institution of higher education located in Obninsk. It began as a branch of the Moscow Engineering and Physics Institute in 1953 to provide specialists in the field of nuclear physics, reactor physics and reactor engineering for the Soviet Union's growing nuclear industry. The education was provided in close cooperation with nuclear-related research institutions in Obninsk. In 1985 the status was changed for ''Obninsk Institute for Nuclear Power Engineering'' to be the leading educational institution to train specialists for rapidly developing nuclear power in the former Soviet Bloc countries. National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (Moscow Engineering Physics Institute) (russian: Национальный исследовательский ядерный университет "МИФИ" / НИЯУ МИФИ or ) is a technical university in Russia. It was founded in 1942 as the Moscow Mechanical Institute of Munitions (), but was soon renamed the Moscow Mechanical Institute. Its original mission was to train skilled personnel for the Soviet military and Soviet atomic bomb project. It was renamed the Moscow Engineering Physics Institute () in 1953, which was its name until 2009. Leonid Solodkov
Leonid Mikhailovich Solodkov (; born 10 April 1958) is a retired Russian Navy Captain 2nd rank and a Hero of the Soviet Union. Solodkov was awarded the title on 24 December 1991 for his work on diving equipment. Solodkov is the last person awarded the title, having received it two days before the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Early life Solodkov was born on 10 April 1958 in Chornukhyne, Luhansk Oblast in a farming family. His childhood was spent in Volzhsky, Volgograd Oblast, where he graduated from tenth grade. In 1976, he graduated from a course at the Obninsk Branch of the Moscow Engineering and Physics Institute. Military service Solodkov joined the Soviet Navy in August 1976. He was sent to the Higher Naval Engineering College. In 1980, Solodkov became a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. He graduated from the college in June 1981.
