Object–verb–subject Word Order
In linguistic typology, object–verb–subject (OVS) or object–verb–agent (OVA) is a rare permutation of word order. OVS denotes the sequence object–verb– subject in unmarked expressions: ''Apples ate Sam'', ''Thorns have roses''. The passive voice in English may appear to be in the OVS order, but that is not an accurate description. In an active voice sentence like ''Sam ate the apples,'' the grammatical subject, ''Sam'', is the agent and is acting on the patient, ''the apples'', which are the object of the verb, ''ate''. In the passive voice, ''The apples were eaten by Sam'', the order is reversed and so that patient is followed by the verb and then the agent. However, ''the apples'' become the subject of the verb, ''were eaten'', which is modified by the prepositional phrase, ''by Sam'', which expresses the agent, and so the usual subject–verb–(object) order is maintained. Linguistic Typology
Linguistic typology (or language typology) is a field of linguistics that studies and classifies languages according to their structural features to allow their comparison. Its aim is to describe and explain the structural diversity and the common properties of the world's languages. Its subdisciplines include, but are not limited to phonological typology, which deals with sound features; syntactic typology, which deals with word order and form; lexical typology, which deals with language vocabulary; and theoretical typology, which aims to explain the universal tendencies. Linguistic typology is contrasted with Genealogical (linguistics), genealogical linguistics on the grounds that typology groups languages or their grammatical features based on formal similarities rather than historic descendence. Tapirapé Language
Tapirapé (also known as Apyãwa and Tapi'irape) is a Tupí-Guaraní language of Brazil spoken near the Araguaia River, in the border of the states of Mato Grosso and Tocantins. Pronouns
In linguistics and grammar, a pronoun ( glossed ) is a word or a group of words that one may substitute for a noun or noun phrase. Pronouns have traditionally been regarded as one of the parts of speech, but some modern theorists would not consider them to form a single class, in view of the variety of functions they perform cross-linguistically. An example of a pronoun is "you", which can be either singular or plural. Norwegian Language
