Oakland County Sheriff's Department
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office is the largest sheriff's department in the state of Michigan. The Sheriff's Office had 859 uniformed officers as of 2017, and has jurisdiction over all of Oakland County, with a population of 1.274 million as of the 2020 census. Roughly 343,000 residents of fifteen communities are served by the Sheriff's Office under contract. The Sheriff's Office also includes a marine patrol and rescue unit, responsible for patrolling 450 lakes across the county. Oakland County is a county in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is part of the metropolitan Detroit area, located northwest of the city. Independence Township, Michigan
Independence Township is a charter township of Oakland County, Michigan, Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 36,686 at the 2020 United States census, 2020 census. Independence Township was first organized in 1834. Walled Lake, Michigan
Walled Lake is a city in Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 6,999 at the 2010 census. The city is bordered by Commerce Township on the north and the city of Novi on the south. As a western suburb of Metro Detroit, Walled Lake is about northwest of Detroit. History The town's name is said to have been given by the first American settler, Walter Hewitt, in 1825. Upon his arrival, he noticed what appeared to be a stone wall along the western bank of a nearby lake, possibly constructed by earlier Potawatomi Indian tribes. Walled Lake was a village inhabited by Ojibwa and Potowatamie people until about 1830. It appears that these people had relocated from an earlier village in the area that is today Southfield. In the United States, a SWAT team (special weapons and tactics, originally special weapons assault team) is a police tactical unit that uses specialized or military equipment and tactics. Although they were first created in the 1960s to handle riot control or violent confrontations with criminals, the number and usage of SWAT teams increased in the 1980s and 1990s during the War on Drugs and later in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks. Oxford Township, officially the Charter Township of Oxford, is a charter township in Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 20,526 at the 2010 census. Communities *The village of Oxford is located within the township. Like all villages in Michigan, it is geographically and politically part of the township, and residents pay both village and township taxes.
