Atholl Oakeley
Sir Edward Atholl Oakeley, 7th Baronet of Shrewsbury (31 May 1900 – January 1987), known under the ring name Atholl Oakeley, was a British professional wrestler and wrestling promoter who was one of the pioneers of professional wrestling in the United Kingdom. He was Britain's first heavyweight all-in wrestling champion, and held the title from 1930 to 1935. He became the European heavyweight champion in 1932. Sir Charles Oakeley, 1st Baronet (27 February 1751 – 7 September 1826) was an English administrator. He married Helena Beatson, a talented amateur artist, and niece of notable Scottish portrait painter Catherine Read. He was the father of Frederick Oakeley and Sir Charles Oakeley, 2nd Baronet, and the grandfather of W. E. Oakeley. Oakeley was born in Forton, Staffordshire, near Newport, a son of William Oakeley and Christian Strachan. Frederick Oakeley
Frederick Oakeley (5 September 1802 – 30 January 1880) was an English Roman Catholic convert, priest, and author. He was ordained in the Church of England in 1828 and in 1845 converted to the Church of Rome, becoming Canon of the Westminster Diocese in 1852. He is best known for his translation of the Christmas carol ''Adeste Fideles'' ("O Come, All Ye Faithful") from Latin into English. Early life The youngest child of Sir Charles Oakeley, 1st Baronet, he was born on 5 September 1802 at the Abbey House, Shrewsbury. In 1810 his family moved to the bishop's palace at Lichfield. Poor health prevented his leaving home for school, but in his fifteenth year he was sent to Charles Sumner for tuition. In June 1820 he matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford; he gained a second class in '' Literae humaniores'' in 1824. Richard Henry Bagnall-Oakeley aka Oakeley (12 November 1865 – 5 July 1947) was a Welsh archer who competed at the 1908 Summer Olympics in London. He was born in Penallt Penallt (also spelt Penalt) is a village in Monmouthshire, Wales, set high on a hill south of Monmouth.
