Oakbank School, Aberdeen
Oakbank School was an independent residential school in Aberdeen, Scotland that offered residential education to young people with behavioural difficulties. Formerly categorised as an approved school An approved school was a type of residential institution in the United Kingdom to which young people could be sent by a court, usually for committing offences but sometimes because they were deemed to be beyond parental control. They were modelle ..., it was the main institution of its kind for the North of Scotland. In 2007 it celebrated its 125th anniversary. In 2008, around 100 staff were made redundant when the school was forced to close because of debts. Developer Carlton Rock bought the site of the former school for £7 million, and 100 new homes were built. All the school buildings on the site were demolished apart from the governor's house to the north of the main building. Oakbank School, Ryeish Green
Oakbank School is a coeducational secondary school located in the hamlet of Ryeish Green (near Spencers Wood) in Berkshire, England. History The first school on the site was called 'Three Mile Cross Primary School' when it was built in 1911. It originally taught pupils aged 5 to 14 years. Its first headmaster was Mr Reeley. After World War II, the school modernised, expanded and amalgamated with a school in Spencers Wood (which is now the village library) to become a senior school. The school later was renamed 'Ryeish Green School'. Ryeish Green School was closed in 2010. Wokingham Borough Council closed the school after it experienced falling student numbers; the school saw a reduction of approximately 150 students over a four-year period from 2002 to 2006. In 2007, an independent candidate stood in the local council elections running on a ''Save Ryeish Green School'' ticket. Beckfoot Oakbank is a mixed secondary school and sixth form located in Keighley, West Yorkshire, England. It is situated near ''Ingrow Lane'' on ''Oakworth Road'' (B6143) in the west of Keighley. History Grammar school Oakbank was founded from the Drake and Tonson School as Keighley Trade and Grammar School (KT & GS) in 1871. It became Keighley Boys' Grammar School (KBGS) on ''Alice Street'' at an unidentified date after 1922. 1916 newspaper articlecalls it KT & GS and in 1922 pupil Harry Whitaker from Cowling was awarded a gold medal marked “KT & GS Junior Champion 1922” Following a fire in 1962 in the Mechanics' Institute (which also provided the school with its assembly hall and some classrooms) new buildings were built in 1964. Parents and staff over a 4-year period also raised £25,000 for the original swimming pool, now built over.
