O Trovador Solitário
''O Trovador Solitário'' is a compilation by Brazilian singer-songwriter Renato Russo released on 13 July 2008 so as to coincide with World Rock Day. It was created with K7 tapes that he registered during his "O Trovator Solitário" (The Lonely Troubadour) era, in which he performed alone with his acoustic guitar in the 1980s, between the end of Aborto Elétrico and the founding of Legião Urbana. It was released by independent label Discobertas and distributed by Coqueiro Verde and not by EMI, which released most Renato Russo and Legião Urbana albums. Background and curation Copis of some of the tapes recorded by Russo were given to friends by him. Using them as a base, many poor quality versions were created and released on the internet for download. Such material was informally named "Rádio Brasília" (Brasília Radio). Renato Russo
Renato Russo (born Renato Manfredini, Jr., March 27, 1960 – October 11, 1996) was a Brazilian singer and songwriter. He was the lead singer of the alternative rock band Legião Urbana. A Brazilian film depicting his life and career was released in 2013, called '' Somos Tão Jovens (We Are So Young)''. Childhood Renato Manfredini Jr. was born in Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro. He started his studies at an early age, at Colégio Olavo Billac. During this period he wrote an essay titled "Old house, in ruins". His father was an executive at Banco do Brasil, and the family moved to Forest Hills, Queens, New York in 1967, when he was assigned a job in the city. Renato and his family returned later to Rio de Janeiro and moved in with his uncle Sávio. ''Legião Urbana'' () is the self-titled debut album by Brazilian rock band Legião Urbana. It was released on 1 January 1985. "Será" was selected as the album's first single and it received a video, shot on May 25, 26 and 27, 1985 at the nightclub Rose Bom Bom, in São Paulo, directed by Toniko Melo. All tracks were already ready before the album's sessions, except for "Por Enquanto". ''Legião Urbana'' sold a total of 550,000 copies and, in 2007, the Brazilian edition of ''Rolling Stone'' magazine elected ''Legião Urbana'' as 40th in the 100 Greatest Brazilian Music Records. Caboclo
A caboclo () is a person of mixed Indigenous Brazilian and European ancestry, or, less commonly, a culturally assimilated or detribalized person of full Amerindian descent. In Brazil, a ''caboclo'' generally refers to this specific type of ''mestiço''. The term, also pronounced "caboco", is from Brazilian Portuguese, and perhaps ultimately from the Tupi ''kaa'boc''. It means a "person having copper-coloured skin" A person of mixed Indigenous Brazilian and sub-Saharan black ancestry is known as a "'' cafuzo''." In the 1872 and 1890 censuses, 3.90% and 9.04% of the population self-identified as caboclos, respectively. "Faroeste Caboclo" (English: '' Caboclo Western'') is a song composed by Renato Russo and recorded by Brazilian rock band Legião Urbana. Written in 1979, the song was released in 1987 in the album ''Que País É Este''. The song is a lengthy ballad, in the vein of Bob Dylan, that tells the story of João de Santo Cristo, a poor man from the Brazilian Northeast who moves to Brasília in search of a better life, gets involved in drug trafficking, briefly abandons the life of crime for the love of a woman and is finally murdered by a rival. Despite its unusual characteristics for a folk song (168 different lines, no chorus and 9 minutes of playing time), "Faroeste Caboclo" was a smash hit.
