OOCL G-class Container Ship
The G class is a series of container ships built for OOCL. With a maximum theoretical capacity of 21,413 TEU they were the largest container ships in the world when they were built and the first ships with a capacity larger than 21,000 TEU. They took the title of largest container ships from ''Madrid Maersk'' (20,568 TEU). They have since been surpassed by other ships like the (23,756 TEU) and the (23,964 TEU). The ships have 24 container bays. Containers can be placed 23 wide on deck and 21 wide below deck. History In April 2015 Samsung Heavy Industries announced it had received an order from OOCL to build six container ships of 21,100 TEU for a total cost of 950 million USD. The first ship, the ''OOCL Hong Kong'', was christened on 12 May 2017. On 18 October 2017 the ''OOCL Japan'' suffered a mechanical failure while traversing the Suez Canal, causing the ship to run aground. OOCL Hong Kong
''OOCL Hong Kong'' was the largest container ship ever built at the time she was delivered in 2017, and the third container ship to surpass the 20,000 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) threshold. She is also the first ship to surpass the 21,000 TEU mark. She is the lead ship of the G class, of which five other ships were built. She was built at the Samsung Heavy Industries, Geoje, shipyard with yard number 2172 and was christened and delivered in May 2017, only two months after the christening of the first ship to break the 20,000 TEU barrier, . OOCL M-class Container Ship
The M class is a series of 10 container ships built for OOCL with a maximum theoretical capacity of 13,208 TEU. The ships were built by Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea. Construction started in 2012 and the first ship was delivered in 2013. The original order was for just 6 ships and was signed in April 2011. Two months later it was announced that four additional ships would be ordered. They would be chartered to NYK Line Nippon Yūsen Kabushiki Kaisha (Japan Mail Shipping Line), also known as NYK Line, is a Japanese shipping company and is a member of the Mitsubishi ''keiretsu''. A tugboat or tug is a marine vessel that manoeuvres other vessels by pushing or pulling them, with direct contact or a tow line.
