O'Neill Sebastian Inlet Pro
The O'Neill Sebastian Inlet Pro (or SI Pro), currently presented by Ron Jon Surf Shop, has kicked off the international professional surfing calendar for the past five years. It is a 4 Star WQS event held at Space Coast in Florida and is, according to Go211, the "largest single sporting event in East Central Florida", the 2008 competition attracting 24 000 spectators. The event also includes the Red Bull Tow-At, where ten invitees are pulled into surf at high speed by a Sea-Doo watercraft in an attempt to pull spectacular moves and win a craft for themselves. Over 200 surfers will compete for a purse of $85 000 this year, as well as the all important WQS points. O'Neill (brand)
O'Neill is originally a Californian surf wear and surfboard brand started in 1952 by Jack O'Neill. It moved down the coast from San Francisco to Santa Cruz by the end of the decade. Jack is credited to have invented the wetsuit, his son Pat the leash on the surfboard. The company logo symbolizes a breaking surf wave. "O'NEILL" and the "Wave logo" are trademarks registered worldwide. In May 2007 the ownership of the brand was sold to a privately held company headquartered in Luxembourg. Sebastian Inlet
Sebastian Inlet, located in Sebastian Inlet State Park in Brevard County, Florida and Indian River County, Florida, offers surfing and fishing opportunities. It is off State Road A1A just 12 miles north of Vero Beach. There are annual surf tournaments, professional and amateur. Visitors fish there, particularly for Snook and Redfish. Government The Inlet is managed by the Sebastian Inlet District with a commission popularly elected by voters from the surrounding area. Candidates run non-partisan. Their annual salary is $3,600. Robert Kelly Slater (born February 11, 1972) is an American professional surfer, best known for being crowned World Surf League champion a record 11 times. Slater is widely regarded as the greatest professional surfer of all time. Slater is also the oldest surfer still active on the World Surf League. He is known for having once held the highest two-wave grand final score in pro surfing by scoring 19.9 out of 20 at The Quiksilver Pro Fiji in 2004 until Kelly Slater eclipsed it the following year at Teahupo'o in the final with a perfect 20. C J Hobgood
Clifton James "C.J." Hobgood (born July 6, 1979) is an Association of Surfing Professionals(ASP) World Championship surfer. He has a twin brother, Damien. They both compete in top-tier professional surfing events around the world. C.J. Hobgood entered his first surfing contest in 1989 and made the Open Boys final. He placed second in a national competition the following year. He won several other championships and in 1998 he was selected as the model for the new National Scholastic Surfing Association logo. In 1999, CJ was the Association Surfer Professionals Rookie of the Year. In 2001 he won the WSL World Championship. He currently resides in Satellite Beach, Florida with his wife and daughter, near his younger brother Travis, his younger sister Marissa, and his parents. Surfing Competitions
Surfing is a surface water sport in which an individual, a surfer (or two in tandem surfing), uses a board to ride on the forward section, or face, of a moving wave of water, which usually carries the surfer towards the shore. Waves suitable for surfing are primarily found on ocean shores, but can also be found in standing waves in the open ocean, in lakes, in rivers in the form of a tidal bore, or in wave pools. The term ''surfing'' refers to a person riding a wave using a board, regardless of the stance. There are several types of boards. The Moche of Peru would often surf on reed craft, while the native peoples of the Pacific surfed waves on alaia, paipo, and other such water craft.
