O'Hare (surname)
O'Hare is the Anglicized form of the Irish name ''Ó hÍr''. This is a famous Irish clan (or sept) surname. The earliest reference to the clan O haichir (now O'Hare) is to be found in the Annals of The Four Masters. The great majority of O'Hares' were descendants of the Oriel family of Ohir or Oheir, who were kin to the O'Hanlons and seated in the Barony of Orier, County Armagh, where, with the adjacent counties of Antrim and Down, the O'Hares are still found. The O'Hare name was spelled: O'Heir, O'Hire, O'Heere, O'Hear, O'Hare and O'Haire. It is the name of an Oriel family who were chiefs of Oirtheara, now the baronies of Orier, in the east of County Armagh. According to the traditional Irish pedigree, the family is descended from Slioch Ir, who was the son of Ior and the grandson of Cathal Ruadh, who was killed in 1401. O'Hare is one of the few surnames which resisted the general tendency in the 18th century to discard the 'O' in their name. Generally, the distinctive mark of ...

Edward O'Hare
Lieutenant Commander Edward Henry O'Hare (March 13, 1914 – November 26, 1943) was an American naval aviator of the United States Navy, who on February 20, 1942, became the Navy's first fighter ace of the war when he single-handedly attacked a formation of nine heavy bombers approaching his aircraft carrier. Even though he had a limited amount of ammunition, he was credited with shooting down five enemy bombers and became the first naval aviator recipient of the Medal of Honor in World War II. O'Hare's final action took place on the night of November 26, 1943, while he was leading the U.S. Navy's first-ever nighttime fighter attack launched from an aircraft carrier. During this encounter with a group of Japanese torpedo bombers, O'Hare's Grumman F6F Hellcat was shot down; his aircraft was never found. In 1945, the U.S. Navy destroyer was named in his honor. On September 19, 1949, the Chicago-area Orchard Depot Airport was renamed O'Hare International Airport, six years after O ...

O'Hare, Chicago
O'Hare, located on the far north side of Chicago, is one of the city's 77 community areas. O'Hare International Airport is located within the boundaries of this community area. This community area is the only one that extends outside Cook County; the western edge (an area comprising the southwest part of the airport) is in DuPage County. The area is a transportation hub containing O'Hare International Airport as well as major roads such as Interstate 90, its auxiliary Interstate 190, Interstate 294, Illinois Route 72, Illinois Route 171, U.S. Route 12 and U.S. Route 45. This allows the O'Hare neighborhood, combined with the nearby suburb of Rosemont, to work as an edge city. History In the Second Treaty of Prairie du Chien, Alexander Robinson was given two square miles of land in what is now the O'Hare community area as a reward for shielding white settlers during Battle of Fort Dearborn. The land was slowly settled over the remainder of the nineteenth century despite the op ...

O'Hare (band)
O'Hara, also known as O'Hare (trans. ''The O'Haras'') were a Yugoslav rock band formed in Zagreb in 1966. Although short-lived, the group was a prominent act of the 1960s Yugoslav rock scene, and, although they were not among the earliest Yugoslav rock bands, O'Hara–as other Yugoslav 1960s rock bands–played a pioneering role in the history of Yugoslav rock. O'Hara gained prominence on the Yugoslav scene with their The Seekers-, The Hollies- and The Mamas & the Papas-influenced songs written by the band's organist and leader Frano Parać. They gained further attention of the public with the arrival of vocalist Josipa Lisac. However, in 1968, Parać and Lisac joined Zlatni Akordi, O'Hare ending their activity. The group's original vocalist, Marcela Munger, and original guitarist, Rajko Boltižar, would reform O'Hara in 1972, the new incarnation of the band releasing only one single and disbanding shortly after. History 1966–1968 O'Hara was formed in 1965 in Zagreb. The ...
