Dan "Sandow" O'Donovan
Daniel "Sandow" O'Donovan (1890, in Cork (city) – 31 July 1975, in Mallow, County Cork, Ireland), was a leading member of the Irish Republican Army during the Irish War of Independence. Early life Dan O'Donovan was an early recruit to the Irish Volunteers and paraded with the Cork Volunteers at the funeral of Jeremiah O'Donovan Rossa at Glasnevin Cemetery, Dublin, in 1915, at which Patrick Pearse gave his famous oration ending with "Ireland unfree shall never be at peace". War of Independence He was later a prominent officer of Cork's No. 1 Brigade of the Irish Republican Army during the Irish War of Independence. On 3 September 1917 he led a successful raid for arms at Cork Grammar School, a school for the middle class Anglo-Irish ascendancy, which maintained its own armoury for training potential army officers. Timothy Joseph O'Donovan (4 April 1881 – 28 June 1957)Irish Times (29 June 1957), "Obituary, Mr. T. J. Donovan" was a Farmers' Party and Fine Gael politician from County Cork in Ireland. He was a Teachta Dála (TD) from 1923 to 1944, then a senator from 1944 until 1954, serving as Cathaoirleach of Seanad Éireann from 1948 to 1951. O'Donovan was elected at the 1923 general election to the 4th Dáil as a Farmers' Party TD for the Cork West constituency. He was re-elected at seven further general elections until his defeat at the 1944 general election to the 12th Dáil, after several changes of party affiliation. After the demise of the Farmers' Party in the 1920s, he was re-elected in 1933 as a National Centre Party TD, and when the National Party merged with Cumann na nGaedheal to form Fine Gael, he joined the new party. Fachtna O'Donovan
Michael Fachtna O'Donovan (1921 - 17 October 1995) was an Irish sportsperson. He played Gaelic football with his local club Clonakilty and was a member of the Cork senior inter-county team from 1943 until 1949. Career O'Donovan first came to Gaelic football prominence with the Carbery Rangers team that won consecutive Southwest Junior Championship titles. Around this time he was also drafted onto the Cork minor team and won a Munster Minor Championship title in 1939. O'Donovan subsequently transferred to the Clonakilty club that was enjoying a golden age in terms of success and won six County Championship titles in ten years. He was soon added to the Cork senior team and claimed his first silverware in 1943 when Cork won the Munster Senior Championship for the first time in 15 years. Domhnall O'Donovan (born 29 April 1988) is an Irish hurler who plays as a right corner-back for the Clare senior team. Born in Clonlara, County Clare, O'Donovan first played competitive hurling whilst at school in St. Munchin's College. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty-one when he first linked up with the Clare under-21 team. He made his senior debut in the 2010 Waterford Crystal Cup. Conor Matthew O'Donovan (born 7 February 1962) is an Irish retired hurler. His league and championship career with the Tipperary senior team lasted seven seasons from 1984 to 1991. Born in Effin, County Limerick, O'Donovan was raised in a strong hurling family. His uncle, Terry Moloney, was an All-Ireland runner-up with Tipperary in 1960. Oliver Michael Timothy O'Donovan (born 28 June 1945) is a British Anglican priest and academic, known for his work in the field of Christian ethics. He has also made contributions to political theology, both contemporary and historical. He was Regius Professor of Moral and Pastoral Theology at the University of Oxford from 1982 to 2006, and Professor of Christian Ethics and Practical Theology at the University of Edinburgh from 2006 to 2013. Gerald O'Donovan (born Jeremiah Donovan; 15 July 1871 – 26 July 1942) was an Irish priest and writer. Life and work Jeremiah Donovan was born in Kilkeel, County Down, the son of a pier builder. He attended Ardnaree College in Killala and St Patrick's College, Maynooth. He left Maynooth after ordination for the Diocese of Clonfert in 1895 and was appointed as a Roman Catholic priest to Loughrea, County Galway between 1896 and 1904. He was an enthusiastic advocate of the Gaelic League and the Irish Cooperative Association, and promoted his views in articles and lectures. His literary friends included Lady Gregory, W. B. Yeats, and George Moore. He was in charge of decorating St Brendan's Cathedral, Loughrea in 1901, the financing provided by O'Donovan's close friend Edward Martyn. He quit Loughrea in 1904 after the arrival of a new bishop, Thomas O'Dea. He moved to London but failing to find work as a priest, he left the Catholic priesthood in May 1908.
