As of 2014, O'Connor consists solely of a Catholic church and its attendant parsonage. Nearby are occasional farm houses. The Church was recently permanently closed and is no longer available to enter unless permission is expressly given by the parish and someone unlocks the barricades. Greeley County is a county in the U.S. state of Nebraska. As of the 2010 census, the population was 2,538. Its county seat is Greeley. In the Nebraska license plate system, Greeley County is represented by the prefix 62 (it had the 62nd-largest number of vehicles registered in the county when the license plate system was established in 1922). History Greeley County was created in 1871 and organized in 1872. It was named after Horace Greeley, a newspaper editor and politician of the mid-19th century. Greeley encouraged western settlement with the motto "Go West, young man." James O'Connor, S.J. (September 10, 1823 – May 27, 1890) was the first Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Omaha, Nebraska. Biography James O'Connor was born in Queenstown, Ireland, September 10, 1823. In 1834, his older brother Michael, former Vice-Rector of the Pontifical Irish College in Rome, was serving as chaplain at for the convent of the Presentation Sisters in Doneraile.
