Névez
Névez (; ) is a commune in the Finistère department of Brittany in north-western France. ''Nevez'' means "new" in Breton. The name is thought to have arisen when Trégunc was split in two, creating a new parish. Population Inhabitants of Névez are called in French ''Névéziens''. Jean Joncourt
Jean Joncourt was a French sculptor born in Irvillac in 1869 and who died in 1937. He is well known for his work on war memorials. Biography Jean Joncourt was born in Irvillac on 31 December 1869. There is no record of his having received any academic training in sculpture and at the age of 20 he was registered as a mason. He was called up for military service and served in the 1st Regiment of Engineers from November 1890 to September 1891. In 1896 he moved to Quimperlé and married Marie Marguerite Derrien, who had been born in Clohars-Carnoët in 1872. The census of 1911 recorded Joncourt as working as a sculptor, with a daughter born in 1897, a son in 1903 and a second daughter in 1904. In 1914 he received mobilization papers and is recorded as having served in April 1915 in the 1st Battalion Territorial Engineers and then the 65th Infantry moving on to the 23rd "Escadron du Train". Kerascoët
Kerascoët is the joint pen name of the French illustrators, comics and animation artists Marie Pommepuy (born 1978) and Sébastien Cosset (born 1975). A married couple, they met while attending the Olivier de Serres art school. They chose their pen name in 2000 after the hamlet of Kerascoët in Névez, Brittany where Pommepuy grew up. Kerascoët have worked on numerous ''bandes dessinées'' as well as the animated television series '' Petit vampire'' and in advertisement. Several of their comics have been published in English by NBM Publishing, to critical acclaim. Breton Language
Breton (, ; or in Morbihan) is a Southwestern Brittonic language of the Celtic language family spoken in Brittany, part of modern-day France. It is the only Celtic language still widely in use on the European mainland, albeit as a member of the insular branch instead of the continental grouping.
