Northern Rivers
Northern Rivers is the most north-easterly region of the Australian state of New South Wales, located between north of the state capital, Sydney, and encompasses the catchments and fertile valleys of the Clarence, Richmond, and Tweed rivers. It extends from Tweed Heads in the north (adjacent to the Queensland border) to the southern extent of the Clarence river catchment which lies between Grafton and Coffs Harbour, and includes the main towns of Tweed Heads, Byron Bay, Ballina, Kyogle, Lismore, Casino and Grafton. The river rises on the eastern slopes of the Great Dividing Range, in the Border Ranges west of Bonalbo, near Rivertree at the junction of Koreelah Creek and Maryland River, on the watershed that marks the border between New South Wales and Queensland. Dorrigo Shire
Dorrigo Shire was a local government area in the Mid North Coast region of New South Wales, Australia. Dorrigo Shire was proclaimed on 7 March 1906, one of 134 shires created after the passing of the '' Local Government (Shires) Act 1905''. The shire was divided to form Nymboida Shire on 5 August 1913. The shire offices were originally in Coramba but by 1951 had moved to Coffs Harbour. Nymboida, New South Wales
Nymboida is a rural village in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, Australia. It is about 21 kilometres south-west of Coutts Crossing, 44 kilometres south-west of Grafton and approximately 687 km north of Sydney. Nymboida is close to the challenging and popular white water rafting waters of the Nymboida River along the Armidale– Grafton Road. The village is in the Clarence Valley Council local government area. In the there were 298 people resident in Nymboida, a decrease from the 427 recorded in 2006. 54.6% were males and 45.4% were females. The median age was 52. Of these residents 1.7% were Indigenous or Torres Strait Islander. Coutts Crossing, New South Wales
Coutts Crossing (population 1,353) is a rural village in the Clarence Valley Council of New South Wales, Australia. The village is about 18 kilometres south-west of Grafton on the banks of the Orara River along the Armidale– Grafton Road. History The village is named after Thomas Coutts, a settler from Scotland who established the nearby Kangaroo Creek pastoral station in 1840. Coutts is best known as being the perpetrator of a mass poisoning of Aboriginals on the Kangaroo Creek run. This occurred in late 1847 and resulted in the deaths of 23 people. Coutts was arrested and sent to Sydney for trial but the case was dismissed. He returned to the area and was able to continue acquiring pastoral properties further north. British occupation in the immediate vicinity around Coutts Crossing began in 1840 with the arrival of pastoral squatter William Forster. Pristine Waters Council
Pristine Waters Council (sometimes referred to as Pristine Waters Shire) was a short-lived local government area in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, Australia. It was proclaimed on 24 May 2000 and commenced operations officially on 1 July 2000, following a merger of Nymboida Shire and Ulmarra Shire. After just four years, Pristine Waters amalgamated with Grafton, Copmanhurst and Maclean to form Clarence Valley Council on 24 February 2004. Prior to the amalgamation, Pristine Waters was scheduled to have an election on 27 March 2004, although only one candidate had nominated with the New South Wales Electoral Commission as of 24 February (the same day as the abolition). The last-minute abolition prevented incumbent councillor Olive Boundy from contesting the election in Coffs Harbour. Clarence Valley Council is a local government area in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, Australia. The council services an area of and draws its name from the Clarence River, which flows through most of the council area. The area under management is adjacent to the Pacific Highway, the Gwydir Highway and the North Coast railway line. The Clarence Valley region includes the coastal plain and lower valleys of the Clarence and Nymboida river.
