Nydalen SK
Nydalens Skiklub is a Norwegian sports club from Nydalen, Oslo. It was founded in , and has sections for orienteering, Nordic skiing and ski orienteering. The club organized national ski jumping competitions regularly from 1891 to 1953, and had its own ski jumping venue at Korsvoll. In orienteering, the club won national championships in relay in 1954 (men), 1968 (women), 1996, 1997 and 1999 (men), and 2000 and 2005 (women). The club organized the national orienteering championships in relay in 1953, the individual Norwegian championships in orienteering in 1961. and the national championships in 1999. Among the successful orienteers from the club are Bjørnar Valstad, Astrid Hansen, Elisabeth Ingvaldsen, Marianne Andersen and Carl Henrik Bjørseth. The club won the women's relay competition in Tiomila in 2006. The club has around 500 members. Maridalen
Maridalen is a valley situated just north of Oslo, Norway, just above the suburb of Kjelsås. Considering that Maridalen is within the Oslo city limits, Maridalen has a very low population density. The valley consists of forests, lakes and agricultural land. Most of the valley is made up of the lake Maridalsvannet, which serves as the primary source of drinking water for 90% of Oslo's population. The only hydroelectric powerplant within the City of Oslo, Hammeren Hydroelectric Power Station is located at Brekke in Maridalen. The valley is a popular recreational area with many hiking trails and cycling tracks for summer usage, and groomed cross-country trails in winter. Both the lake and valley are protected. Tiomila
Tiomila or 10-mila is an orienteering race held annually in Sweden since 1945, usually in late April or early May. It is a 10-man relay which includes both night and daytime legs. The women's race consists of five daylight legs. Tiomila attracts club teams from all the major orienteering nations. In 2008, both the men's and the women's race consisted of about 350 teams. In 2019, there were 336 women's teams, and 310 men's teams. The name means "ten mil" (100 km) and refers to the total distance run by each team. The actual distance, however, varies from year to year. The 2015 edition was measured to along the straight line between the controls. Nydalen
Nydalen is a neighbourhood in the Nordre Aker borough in northern Oslo, Norway. History In the late 19th century, the banks of the Akerselva River were dotted with various industrial buildings, Nydalen included. However, a transformation soon occurred. Beginning in the 1990s, Nydalen evolved into an urban hub of sorts with modern residential buildings, commercial and service establishments, shopping centres, eateries, and numerous corporate offices. The relocation of the BI Norwegian Business School to the area in 2004 further boosted the area's development. In 2003, a new subway station, Nydalen (station) opened in Nydalen. Bjørnar Valstad
Bjørnar Valstad (born 27 April 1967) is a Norwegian former orienteering athlete who has won 4 World Orienteering Championships gold medals. Valstad ran for the Norwegian club Bækkelagets SK in Oslo. He previously represented Nydalens SK, NTHI and IL Stjørdals-Blink. From 2007 to 2014 he was the secretary-general of the Norges Orienteringsforbund. He retired from international orienteering at the end of the 2004 season where he became world champion in both the long and relay events, despite this he failed to make the Orienteering World Cup final round in Germany. He is married to former orienteering athlete Hanne Staff. They are living in Nittedal with their two daughters born 2006 and 2009.
