Nyanza Province
Nyanza Province (; sw, Mkoa wa Nyanza) was one of Kenya's Provinces of Kenya, eight administrative provinces before the formation of the Counties of Kenya, 47 counties under the Constitution of Kenya, 2010 constitution. Six counties were organised in the area of the former province. The region is located in the southwest part of Kenya around Lake Victoria, includes part of the eastern edge of Lake Victoria, and is inhabited predominantly by the Luo (Kenya and Tanzania), Luo people and Kisii people. There are also Bantu languages, Bantu-speaking tribes, such as the Kuria, and some Luhya people, Luhya, living in the province. The province derives its name from ''Nyanza,'' a Bantu word which means a large mass of water. The provincial capital was Kisumu, the third-largest city in Kenya. Provinces Of Kenya
Kenya's provinces were replaced by a system of counties in 2010. History Before the new constitution of Kenya that came into force on August 27, 2010, Kenya was divided into eight provinces (see map). The provinces were subdivided into 46 districts (excluding Nairobi) which were further subdivided into 262 divisions. Homa Bay County
Homa Bay County is a county in the former Nyanza Province of Kenya. Its capital and largest town is Homa Bay. The county has a population of 1,131,950 (2019 census) and an area of 3,154.7 km2. Lake Victoria is a major source of livelihood for Homa Bay County. It has 40 wards, each represented by an MCA to the assembly in Homa Bay town as its headquarters. Homa Bay County has eight sub counties just like the constituencies. Ogembo
Ogembo is a small farming town in Kisii County, Kenya. Her inhabitants are the abagusii community. The town started around 1860 by the locals and around 1920s it became a commercial center for the Indians and a government centre for the colonial rule in the area. The surrounding area is well known for banana farming and tea farming. Ogembo is located 380 km west of Nairobi and has a population of 20,000. Gucha District
Gucha District was a former district in Nyanza Province, western Kenya. It was also known by the name: South Kisii District or Ogembo District. In 1999, its population was approximately 461,00 Its district headquarters were at Ogembo which houses more than a thousand residents, (people who live in the center of the town), with more than one thousand people more that visit it each day. Agriculture is the main industry. Apart from numerous small family plantations, there are large sugar cane fields. The population is mostly Gusii, but the district borders Maasai land at southeast. There has been some ethnic clashes between them. The district had three constituencies: South Mugirango, Bomachoge Borabu Constituency , Bomachoge Chache Constituency and Bobasi. Borabu District
Borabue ( th, บรบือ, ) is a district (''amphoe'') in the central part of Maha Sarakham province, northeastern Thailand. Geography Neighboring districts are (from the north clockwise): Kosum Phisai, Mueang Maha Sarakham, Wapi Pathum, Na Chueak, and Kut Rang. Bondo, Kenya
Bondo is a town in Siaya County of Kenya. It has traditionally been a fishing town and its entire economy rotates around the fish from Lake Victoria. It the largest and most populous town of the county. Located 64 kilometers West of Kisumu, Bondo was established in the early 1920s as a market centre. In the 1990s, it became the headquarters of Bondo district which was carved out of the larger Siaya District. The town has developed and expanded over the years and is currently a busy and vibrant economic and educational hub with not only a university, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, but other tertiary institutions such as Kenya Medical Training College, Bondo Teachers Training College and Bondo Technical Training Institute. Bondo District
Bondo District was an administrative district in the former Nyanza Province of Kenya. Its capital town was Bondo. The Bondo District had a population of 238,78 The district was relatively new; it was created in 1998 from southern parts of the Siaya District. Bondo district has since been further split off from Rarieda District to its east. The district had only two constituencies: Bondo Constituency and Rarieda Constituency.
